Guiding Question: What would we look like without bones?
How would we move if we didn’t have joints?
Opening:
Can you think of some of the things we couldn’t do if we didn’t have a skeleton?
How would we ride a bike, a skateboard, play basketball, or hackey sack if we didn’t have
 joints?
Direct students to http://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/ks4/cur/physhlth/foundation/5-8/blm.html , 6-
4:Skeleton Diagram ( labeled pg 2.), have them become familiar with the bones of the skeleton.
Have them go to http://www.eskeletons.org/viewer/joints/jointMov.htmlto see a 3-D representation of
the bones and joints.
Give students a body size piece of butcher paper and have them trace each other and fill in the
bones in the tracing.

Closing:
Provide students with a diagram of a
skeleton(http://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/ks4/cur/physhlth/foundation/5-8/blm.html ,(skeleton diagram pg.
1 ) and have them correctly label the major bones of the human body. On a separate piece of paper
have them list the 5 joint types and give an example of the use of each.

                                       Outcome/Assessment
Given a blank skeleton diagram students will be able to correctly label the major bones and
list and describe the 5 joint types with at least 80% accuracy.
