October 5, 2005: Promotion As A Community Process This panel discussion will focus on what it means to be an “academic citizen”, the importance of establishing and maintaining relationships in your department/school and understanding the “people” part of the process that will promote you. A special focus on the needs of women and minorities in academia will be included. Panelists: Professor Marianne Wokeck, Department of History; Natasha Flowers, Office for Multicultural Professional Development: Kathleen Grove, Office for Women November 2, 2005: Knowing When You Are Ready and Getting There Speakers will identify ways to identify the correct timing for proceeding, how to develop a plan to develop your potential, how to discern areas needing improvement, getting feedback from colleagues, and what preparation is needed. Panelists: Khaula Murtadha, Executive Associate Dean, IU School of Education; Angela McBride, Dean Emeritus, IU School of Nursing January 25, 2006: What Are the Steps and Who Is Involved This panel will discuss the current campus guidelines on promotion and tenure, what steps are involved in the review process, what the timeline is, how the review process works, what people are involved, and what your responsibility is. Panelists: Kim Manlove, Assistant Dean, Academic Policies and Procedures; Professor Ed Berbari, Chair, Biomedical Engineering, Purdue School of Engineering and Technology February 22, 2006: Writing the Dossier as a Personal Journey Speakers at this workshop will focus on how to develop a personal statement and dossier and how to use it effectively for promotion. Additionally, they will discuss its use as a self-reflective exercise and planning tool for personal development. Panelists: Professor Mary Fisher, IU School of Nursing; Professor John Hazer, Department of Psychology, Purdue School of Science March 29, 2006: A View from the Other Side This session is being combined with the Academic Policies and Procedures department annual workshop.
