Setting Up a Blogger Site set# 1

Follow these steps to create a weblog site for your project team. One team member will
create the site and then add the other team members as editors. If the person creating
this site has a Blogger account, they should log in and jump to step (2). Otherwise they
will first create a free account. In a few minutes, your team will have their own project
web site.

(1) Go to Blogger.com or
http://www.blogger.com/

and click on CREATE BLOG NOW.

(2) On the next screen, enter information to
create your account. You will need to create a
unique username (It is likely that “bill” or
“joan” is already taken ;-)

Click CONTINUE.

(3) Now you will create your team weblog. The title can be changed at anytim e, but
should reflect something about your team and/or what you are doing here. The hardest
part is choosing a unique name that will
become your URL, so if you enter something
like “mywildcrazyblog” your site will be
online at the address
http://mywildcrazyblog.blogspot.com/

It may take several attempts to find a unique
name!

Click CONTINUE.

(4) Next, select a default template for
how your blog will appear. You can click
the preview template link to see will
screen mockup of how the design will
appear.

Since the content is separate from the
formatting, you can change the template
at a later time, and more templates are
available inside the Blogger editing tools.

For now, select one that suits your group
and Click CONTINUE.

(5) Wait a few moments while blog is
being constructed.

When you see the confirmation screen,
click START POSTING to publish your
first blog entry.

(6) This is your main blog editing screen.
Create a descriptive title for each new
entry you compose. You do NOT need to
use the time or date (e.g. “Musings about
Blogs on July 11”) as that is automatically
added for you.

For your ITL05 team blog, write the first
entry as an introduction for yourself and
your team members. Say something
about this experience, and what you hope
to get out of your week at Penn State.
Since you are the publisher, you can
choose the tone of writing as
conversational, academic, humorous, etc.

Click Publish Blog.

Once it is completed, you can follow the links to view your brand new site. Use the
attached sticky note to provide Alan the URL for your published blog.

From here, spend some time to explore
the other editing tabs:

Posting: Create new entries and edit
or view previous entries.

Settings: Several screens of options to
modify your site.

Template: Edit the template (some CSS / HMTL skills may be required, but you can
also select from a wider choice of templates).

For now, the one task you need to do is to
go to the settings tab, and click Members.

Click Add team Members. Use the next
screen to add the other members of your
team by entering the their email addresses.

Each team member will get an email
message with instructions for logging in
and using these editing tools.
