e) Nature and extent of involvement of faculty and students in academic affairs /
    Improvements:



i) TUTORIAL SYSTEM

       The department effectively implements tutorial system for which a faculty

is appointed as tutorial guide for every 20 (Twenty) students. The tutorial guides

convene periodical meetings with their wards and offer effective counselling to

solve the problems of their respective wards. This system creates very good

rapport for the students with staff to understand each other very well.
 ii) GUEST LECTURES AND SEMINARS
         It is our constant endeavor in the Department to make the students

globally competitive in developing softwares and entrepreneurs in IT. To attain

this objective, Seminars, Guest Lectures, Workshops, Symposia, Project Work,

Industrial Visits, Computer Quiz etc., have been regularly organized. These

activities give an opportunity for the students as well as the faculty to gain

adequate practical knowledge and current happenings in the IT industry, Project

development Strategies etc. These activities inspire the students to expose their

latent potentials with more commitment and involvement.



iii) INDUSTRIAL VISITS

       Industrial Visits have regularly been arranged to the students by the

department with a view to enhance their Practical knowledge and exposure

towards the happenings in the IT industry. These regular industrial visits offer

adequate exposure to the students and would make them more competent in their

future assignments in India and abroad as well.



iv) GUEST AND VISITING FACULTY

       The department effectively makes use of the valuable services of guest

faculties and visiting faculties for the benefit and betterment of both the students

and the members of the Faculty. Their regular visits to the college and interactions

with the students and faculty helps enriching their knowledge in the practical

world. This bridges the gap between the theoritical knowledge and Expertise

knowledge.

h) Placement Facilities:
         The Placement Cell provides special training for our students in Aptitude,

Technical and Communication Skills. It also conducts mock Interviews for the students.

Many Seminars, Aptitude tests, Technical tests, Group Discussions and Paper

Presentations are also conducted.      Many of our students were placed in reputed

organizations such as Wipro, Satyam, TCS and Polaris. This Cell facilitates campus and

off campus interviews for the students. The cell is headed by a senior faculty member of

the Department and it consists of two staff Representatives and student representatives.

d) Profile of the Director :

       Dr. S. Arockiasamy, Director of the Department, Department of Computer
Applications, SNR Sons College (Autonomous), Coimbatore is a Post Graduate in
Computer Science and he is specialized in Applications of Image processing. He has
wide experience of teaching various subjects of Computer Science and Applications for
nearly two decades. He holds various positions in this campus like the Co – ordinator for
National and State level seminars, Member in the Students Counselling Committee, Co–
ordinator for the Post Graduate programmes such as MCA and M.Sc. Computer Science
of the School of Distance Education of Bharathiar University.

       Dr. S. Arockiasamy has published a considerable number of Research papers and
articles in various leading national level journals and International Conferences. He is
also Chief Editor of a Quarterly Computer Magazine CSI TIMES (Computer Society of
India and Voice of IT ( SNR Sons College).

       1. In an International Conference on Number Theory and Fourier Techniques

            the paper titled “A Novel Seed Block Image Sorting and Classification

            Strategy for Fast and Efficient Block Matching in Fractal Image

            Compression” in December 2004.


       2.   Three of his papers published in Leading Computer Journals

               a) Journal of CSI (Computer Society of India)

               b) ACCST ( Arts , Commerce and Computer Science and Technology)

               c) JCS (Journal of Computer Science)

       3. More than ten of his Research Papers on Image Processing published in

            National Conferences.
       4. He is also writing Computer articles in Daily News Paper Dina Thanthi for the

           past 90 Weeks since Mar’2004.


       5. He is also writing about Happenings in the IT Industries for the six months in

           a monthly magazine Thozhil Munnetram.


       6. He has written Text Books on Computer Science for BCA and M.Sc. Students

           of Pondichery University and Annamalai University respectively.


       He is a Member and Office Bearer of Computer Society of India, Review

Projector India, Programme Advisory Committee of All India Radio.


       He has attended a number of national as well as International conferences and

presented papers on various current topics.        He has also organized more than Ten

seminars and Conferences in the capacity of Secretary of Computer Society of India.


       Dr. S. Arockiasamy is a recognized guide for research scholars of M.Phil of

Bharathiar University, Bharathidasan University, Alagappa University, Periyar

University, MS University and Madurai Kamaraj University. He has already guided 30

M.Phil scholars and 20 more are pursuing their M.Phil under his guidance. He is a

visiting and guest faculty for several institutions.

               The students are supplied with the structured feed back forms for the
purpose of their assessment towards the faculty.
VI. FEE

a) The details of Fees:

          As per the norms of the Government of Tamil Nadu.


b) Time schedule for payment of fee for the entire programme:

       The students are directed to pay the fee within a fortnight after the reopening of
the college every year.

c) Fee waivers granted with amount and name of students:                     Nil


d) Number of scholarships offered by the institute with the name of students,
   duration and amount:

       The scholarships are provided to the eligible students as per the norms of the

Government of Tamil Nadu.


       The students, who are eligible for the scholarship, should apply for the

scholarship at the beginning of the academic year and these applications will be

forwarded by the college to the Government Welfare Officer for consideration. The

eligible candidates will be provided scholarship by means of cheques issued by the

Government Welfare Officer.

f). Estimated cost of Boarding and Lodging in the Hostels:

Boarding : On an average it works out between Rs. 700 to Rs. 850 per month per

       If the candidate withdraws his / her admission before the re – opening of the

college, the college refunds the full amount paid by the candidate.
IX CRITERIA FOR WEIGHTAGE FOR ADMISSION

   a) Criteria with respective weightages:

       Out of the total sanctioned intake of 60 students, 30 students are admitted under

the Government Quota and the remaining 30 students are admitted under the

Management Quota.

       i) Admission of Students under Management Quota:

              For admitting the students for this programme under Management Quota,

       the scores secured by the students in CET are being considered.


       ii) Admission of Students under Government Quota:

              For admitting the students for this programme under Government

       Quota, the government considering the scores secured by the students in

       TANCET. On the basis of the TANCET scores, the students are admitted

       through single window system.


   b) Minimum Level of acceptance             : As per the norms prescribed by the
                                                Bharathiar University.


   c) Minimum cut – off levels of percentage: As per the norms of Bharathiar
                                               University and Government of Tamilnadu.
