Quark 7 Macintosh PDF - New PostScript Method Instructions
SETUP STEPS 1. Import Distiller Settings 2. Change Quark Preferences 3. Turn on all Quark XTensions 4. Import Quark Output Style Before creating PostScript, follow these setup steps. You should only have to do this once on each computer. Go to our website, www.rrdbook.com and download the RRD_Settings.zip file to your computer. This file contains helper files for common software. You may skip to the Create PDF step if you already have completed the setup steps. Setup Step 1. Distiller Settings Import the 2007 Distiller settings file into Distiller 8, found in the Distiller folder you downloaded and unzipped. For earlier versions of Distiller, use RR Donnelley’s previous Distiller settings file or instructions. After downloading this file, uncompress it. The uncompressed file will be named “RRD_Distiller_8_200703_PDF_X1a.joboptions” In Distiller go to Settings > Add Adobe PDF Settings menu. Select the uncompressed file from the Distiller folder and click on the Open button.
Setup Step 2. Quark Preferences Quark 7 has options for creating PostScript for later Distilling to PDF. RR Donnelley recommends this method over the Export to PDF method. This fast PostScript method uses a feature introduced in Quark 6.5 and enhanced in Quark 7, which streamlines the PostScript process from previous versions of Quark. To use this feature you must change a Quark preference. Go to Quark Preferences from the Quark XPress menu.

Select PDF from the list. Notice that by default PDF Workflow is set to “Direct to PDF”. Change this option to “Create PostScript File for Later Distilling”. If you have a workflow set up to automatically Distill PostScript files or you want your files to end up in the same folder all the time, select the “Use Watched Folder” option, then click on Browse to select the destination folder. Set Virtual Memory to 100 MB. According to Quark documentation you may need to increase this value for complex jobs. Click on the OK button to save preference changes.
Setup Step 3. Turn on all Quark XTensions From Utilities menu select XTensions Manager...
Ensure that all XTensions are enabled. It has been found that if Custom Bleeds is turned off, the options to set bleeds are not available.
