Designation: Business Development Officer (2 year fixed term contract)
Grade: 4/5

Section:              Corporate Relations

Reports to: Head of Corporate Relations

Overall Purpose

To assist the Head of Corporate Relations in the promotion of all commercial
applications of the Society’s work.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is a sales post, working as part of a team. The principal duties and
responsibilities are listed below.

To act in a sales and marketing capacity generating income from the sale of
Vegetarian Society Approved product accreditation. You will include the use of,
telesales, exhibition attendance (UK and Europe), direct mail and any other methods
as may be deemed appropriate.

To make follow up telephone calls on a daily basis to all contacts you have gained.
You will also keep a record of all calls and appointments made.

To arrange and attend meetings with potential new clients and existing clients as
necessary.

To submit a brief monthly report detailing new clients, potential clients, progress of
sales leads and major tasks undertaken.

To study appropriate journals, magazines and surveys in order to compile market
information and obtain new leads for potential business.

To assist the Head of Corporate Relations in the implementation of a marketing
strategy with a view to increasing the profile and sales of the Vegetarian Society
Approved trademark.
To assist the Head of Corporate Relations with ingredient checking of proposed
trademark products and menus. You will also agree trademark licence arrangements
and raise necessary paperwork.

To assist the Corporate Relations Support Officer with trademark licence renewals,
raise necessary invoices, together with contracts and other paperwork as necessary.

To assist with the co-ordination of exhibitions and similar events including attendance
at such events as deemed appropriate by the Head of Corporate Relations or Chief
Executive. Attendance at such events may include working away from home and/or
working unsocial hours.

To participate in all aspects of training and development as directed and to use all
learning opportunities to develop personal skills necessary to improve effectiveness,
efficiency and service delivery.

To undertake any such relevant and appropriate duties at a level of responsibility
consistent with the grade of the post which may be allocated.
