Arkansas 2013 No Arkansas has not celebrated our centennial birthday. Our Highway Pending Ort, Randy, AHTD Public Affairs
Commission will turn 100 in 2013. We have not begun any Officer 501-569-2227,
preparations at this time. In 1993, we published a history book of Randy.Ort@arkansashighways.com
the Commission and Department to celebrate 80 years in existence.
A copy of that book was sent to each state transportation department.
We are currently in the process of finalizing and distributing an
updated version of the book to signify 90 years of the Commission,
and also 50 years of the constitutional amendment that created the
Commission in its current form. A copy of that book will be sent to
you very soon.

Georgia 2019 No We are a ways off for our centennial (2019), but for the State of No Georgene M. Geary, P.E.
Georgia's 250 anniversary in 1983 we produced a book of maps State Materials and Research Engineer
throughout the years (about 10-12 different maps from 1919 to Division of Construction
1983) in Georgia showing the major changes. I have one hardcopy, Georgia DOT

Illinois 2017 No Illinois DOT is not 100 years old yet, so we have nothing to report No Patricia Broers
on how to handle a centennial for the Department. That will be in Research Coordinator
2017. IDOT was started as the Department of Public Works and Illinois Department of Transportation
Buildings in 1917. We were preceded with a Good Roads Bureau of Materials and Physical
Commission that was established in 1912. The Good Roads Research
Commission laid the groundwork for an Illinois gas tax, but never 126 East Ash Street

Board of Public Roads was created. Through various evolutions,
this State Board became RIDOT in 1972. Special guests including
our Governor and the Mayor of Providence attended the "party",
which featured a centennial cake under a tent adjacent to the river on
South Water Street. We did not create any books or booklets, aside
from the press kit prepared for the event. We did distribute
"premium items": we gave all employees mugs that read "Happy
100th Birthday, RIDOT: Celebrating a Century of Service", and we
also had several hats made up which we distributed to former
Directors to show our appreciation. We also displayed a vinyl
birthday banner.

Washington 2005 Pending WSDOT is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, with the Expect book to Deb Gregory, GregorD@wsdot.wa.gov

event occurs in Olympia on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 with an open
house in the Capitol Rotunda during the morning that will include
invites to the current and former Governors, current and former
Secretaries of Transportation, current Transportation
Commissioners, the state's congressional delegation, our sponsors,
our executives, the Chairs of the legislative House and Senate
Transportation Committees, and others. The open house will
comprise the first hour. The second hour will comprise the official
program with speeches, acknowledgements, etc. We'll have cake,
cookies, punch, displays, and literature available to people.
Washington Contracted with a HistoryLink in Seattle, they have done historical
(cont.) books on the ferry system, the Cities of Seattle and Bellevue, and
King County. Their website is: www.historylink.org. When
completed, the book will be posted on their website along with
essays based on interviews with a variety of people. HistoryLink is
also putting together two museum-quality historical displays that
will be showcased around the state throughout the year. To aid with
displays at state and county fairs, etc., developing duplicates of the
displays done in an easier to transport medium. A poster will be
printed in limited quantities to be used as giveaways and be
reproduced as commemorative postcards, etc.

Washington Working with TVW, Washington State's public affairs network,
(cont.) which provides unedited television coverage of state government
deliberations and public policy events. They've expressed interest in
taping a round-table discussion of all living former Secretaries of
Transportation to discuss highlights and challenges faced by each of
their administrations. The taping would be conducted in the Capitol
Rotunda using the historical display as a backdrop and would air
during our March centennial week. Centennial celebrations will also
be conducted in each of our six regions around the state throughout
the year.
West 2013 No The West Virginia legislature created the State Roads Bureau in No Carol Melling,
Virginia 1913 and replaced it with the Sate Roads Commission in 1917. The cmelling@dot.state.wv.us
1920 ratification of "good roads" amendment authorized the 1921
legislature to pass a law providing for designation, construction and
maintenance of a state road system and appointment by the
Governor of three-man State Road Commission to carry out the
statute. Celebrations are not being plkanned at this time.
