WORK OBJECTIVE This is routine skilled labor tasks with other employees in the collection and distribution division. Work involves maintenance, repair, installation, renewal, relocation, removal and disconnection of various utility mains and services. Involves tasks include maintenance, repair, adjustment, inspection and basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment for lift stations. Involves working in confined spaces at times. Receives specific work instruction and refers unusual questions to a supervisor for decisions. Performs a variety of maintenance, construction, repair or location tasks involving water meters, boxes, utilities mains and lines. Work is performed under the supervision of either the Collection or Distribution Division Supervisor. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs physically demanding skilled labor tasks to install, relocate, replace, repair and maintain gravity sewer lines, force mains, manholes, service connections, water mains, fire hydrants, gate valves and other related appurtenances associated with water and wastewater systems, in the field. Performs tasks that find and eliminate sources of infiltration and inflow into the collection system. Locates sewer and water mains, valves, blow-offs and customer services for others. Performs required inspections, maintenance, repair adjustments to lift stations, grounds, pumps, motors, plumbing and other related appurtenances. Reports any defects, power outages or malfunctions to a supervisor at once. Records and documents required information as needed. Operates light equipment such as pay loader, backhoe, trencher, sewer cleaner, sludge tanker truck and tractor mower on a limited basis. May be assigned to read water meters on assigned routes or associated with work orders and accurately record readings. Is responsible for the electronic equipment assigned for the purpose of recording meter reading information and ensures that the equipment is kept from loss or damage. Ensures that meters are registering properly and reports on such conditions as stuck meters, broken dials, leaks and other defects or suspicious conditions. Performs customer service work orders, turns customer water service on or off, reads meters and other related customer service work. Performs other assigned duties as required by the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • High school graduate or GED required and two years of labor-intensive work experience; or two years or work experience involving customer or public contact.

This position requires possession of a valid Florida CDL Drivers License Class “B “, with air brake and tanker endorsements within 90 days of appointment to position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Basic working knowledge of modern methods, tools, equipment, materials, and techniques in the installation, relocation, extension, repair and maintenance of sewer and water mains, customer services, valves, fire hydrants, manholes, lift stations, and other related appurtenances in the collection and distribution system. Ability to understand oral and written instructions. Must have knowledge of streets and roads in our service area. Ability to fill out reports and work orders with good penmanship. Ability to operate light equipment such as pay loader, backhoe, trencher, sewer cleaner, sludge tanker truck and tractor mower, as needed.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS May occasionally encounter hostile or aggressive behavior when asked to respond to a complaint. Some risk of exposure to vehicular traffic, noise and exhaust fumes, and working around open trenches and construction areas which involve the use of safety equipment such as reflective vests, hard hats, and safety shoes. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and may sometimes be loud. Must follow all safety requirements carefully.
