4.3.7 Political Leaves of Absence
Policy: A.1 'Regular' employees of the College are eligible for consideration with respect to political leaves of absence without pay and benefits per the following procedures.
Procedures: B.1 To enable a 'regular' employee of the College to contest a federal, provincial, or municipal election, a political leave of absence without pay may be granted by the President or his delegate for a period of up to six (6) weeks for a federal or provincial election and up to two (2) weeks for a municipal election. The leave of absence without pay will be subject to the following conditions among others: a. b. c. B.2 the operations of the College will not suffer unduly; the request for political leave of absence without pay must be submitted at least two (2) weeks prior to the first day of the leave period; the regular employee of the College will pay the College share of group benefits premiums.
In the event that a regular employee of the College is elected to a part-time municipal office, short-term leaves of absence without pay may be granted by the College President or his delegate. In the event that a regular employee of the College is elected to a full-time political office he may be granted a leave of absence without pay by the College Board on the recommendation of the President for one (1) term of political office. A regular employee of the College in pursuit of political office or on behalf of other shall not carry out any political activities on College time, premises or with College equipment/services.
