4.1.10 Recruitment/Appointment: Family Members
Policy: A.1 The College shall attempt to recruit and employ the most qualified personnel. However, employment of two or more members of an immediate family can create a conflict of interest or give rise to the possibility of favoritism or perception of favoritism, where one family member is responsible for directly reporting to, or supervision of, the other family member, particularly when supervision entails such activities as performance evaluation, salary, promotion, conditions of work, and similar matters. Therefore, the College shall not normally employ members of an immediate family in such circumstances. Hiring procedures shall take into account the aforementioned and be carried out as set out in the applicable collective agreement(s) and/or in keeping with approved practice(s). However, if in the process, the College is obliged to consider hiring a member of an employee's/Board member's immediate family, the related employee/Board member shall exempt him/herself from participating in the selection/appointment process.
A.2
Definition: Immediate family shall be understood to mean spouse, child, sibling, parent, grandparent, grandchild and any other relative if permanently residing in the same household.
