150 faculty, students, and staff participated)

Outcomes from the Spring
2004 Dialogue on Diversity
• Approximately 150 individuals participated in small
group conversations about the challenges of diversity
education at NCSU.
• Developed a list of challenges and opportunities.
• Developed a list of recommendations for moving
forward.
• OVPDAA developed a list of priorities for enhancing
diversity education for faculty, students, and staff.
Spring 2004 Diversity Dialogue
Key Recommendations
• Make individual and organizational expectations
about diversity education explicit.
• Enhance individual and organizational
accountability for diversity education.
• Increase awareness/communication.
• Provide diversity education options/alternatives.
What Has Happened Since the
Spring Dialogue?
• Accountability Initiative – Office for Diversity and
African American Affairs and Human Resources (ongoing)
• Diversity Summit on Teaching and Learning –
sponsored by the Faculty Center for Teaching and
Learning – (19 April 2004).
• College Diversity Coordinators and FCTL
Collaboration on diversity education/training for faculty and
staff (20 Oct and 17 Nov 2004).
• LITRE Grant submitted for ON-LINE, ON-DEMAND
Diversity Education Modules (1 October 2004).
• Diversity at NC State website to launch in November
2004.

Why are we here?
• To review some of the survey results.
• To have a conversation about what
these results might mean to you and
to our campus.
How did we survey the students?
• An invitation to participate was e-mailed to all
currently enrolled students seeking a degree.
• As an incentive, respondents were entered in a
drawing for a $25 NCSU bookstore gift
certificate.
• Responses were confidential, but not
anonymous. Students provided their student ID.
• The survey was available on the web from
January 20 – February 18, 2004.
