RECREATION BENEFIT FUND INFORMATION AND PROCEDURES
Who is eligible for this program? Children 17 and younger whose family meets the financial eligibility standards. Must I live in Lynnwood to receive these benefits funds? No. Residence is not a consideration at this time. However, these funds can only be used for programs offered at the Lynnwood Recreation Center. Is there a limit to the amount of funds we may receive? Currently each qualifying child may receive up to $60.00 worth of financial assistance per activity quarter. There is no limit to the number of quarters you may receive assistance as long as your financial status does not disqualify you. Additionally, approval of applications is contingent on available funds. Once qualified, do I need to reapply for each quarter? Yes. It is important to submit a new application for each quarter (i.e., January 1 – March 31; April 1 – June 30; July 1 – September 30; October 1 – December 31). How long does it take to get my application approved? You should submit your application at least two weeks prior to registration. APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED AT TIME OF REGISTRATION and pre-approval is required. How can I qualify? Two mean of determining need are used. First, if your child/children receive government assistance, they automatically qualify once your case number is verified. If you do not receive public assistance, you may submit your most current federal income tax return. Eligibility is determined on a sliding scale based on family size and total family income. Pay stubs or W-4 forms can not be substituted for federal income tax return. Can foster children in my care receive benefit funds? Yes. If you are the child’s legal guardian, they reside with you and qualify through either D.S.H.S. or on the basis of family income, they may receive benefits. Will this information be kept confidential? Yes. Information is reviewed and verified by the Recreation Benefit Fund staff only. Are there limitations to what we can use the funds for? Yes. These funds cannot be used for racquetball court fees, private lessons, green fees, golf lessons, facility rentals, park permits, or resale items. Additionally, these funds are not refundable or transferable between quarters. What happens after I submit my application? The information on your application is first verified. You will be contacted by phone as to the result. If your application is approved, a voucher will be given to the front desk. You may then come in and register. Simply let the staff know you have a “RBF voucher” and it will act as payment. If your application is denied, you will be given the reason(s). Should those reasons change, you may reapply.
