E-mail “Tax” and other good reasons to return to letter writing
So, by now we’ve all received (most likely more than once) the panicked email claiming that the US government is in cahoots with the US Postal Service and they are going to charge us 5¢ per email on top of the (for some, outrageous) ISP fees. Hopefully, you have looked up the information on your favorite internet hoax site and discovered that email is alive and well. But there is something about the simple act of writing a letter. We lead such hurried lives; checking in with friends and families from cell phones while stuck in traffic, optimizing every last second in the day; dashing off two line emails inquiring about the latest details of a friend’s new romance. The way we communicate with each other says a lot about what we feel for people. Taking the time to put pen to paper is a great way to say, “Hey, I am thinking about you!” A good friend of mine is a great letter writer. She always had beautiful stationary, never the same paper twice. Her letters were full of the inane and mundane, the stuff we never seemed to get around to on email or the phone. Her letters were little pieces of herself, wrapped up in love and friendship, waiting for me in my mailbox after a trying day. I lost touch with
Upcoming Holidays and Other Reasons to Send Cards
OK, not everyone NEEDS a reason to send out cards, but some people need a little nudge. Here’s a list of some upcoming holidays and other occasions to send cards for. This is hardly a exhaustive list, so if you find another reason to send a card, let us know and we’ll come up with a smashing design!
May May 9—Mother’s Day June June 20—Father’s Day October October 31—Halloween November November 25— Thanksgiving Day December December 8—Hanukkah December 25—Christmas
her over the years, but still have all of her letters in a box that I find every year or so, when I vow to clean out all of the papers that have accumulated. I always think, “Well, it’s about time I got rid of these.” But then I sit and reread them and think, “Well, they don’t take up THAT much room…” Brighten up the day of someone you love and send a little note. It sure is nice to get something in the mail that is not a bill, isn’t it?
What Are “Other Delights” Anyway?
It says it right there in our tag line (that little bit right below our logo), “Cards, invitations, & (the ever mysterious) Other Delights. But what does it all mean? Rein in your imaginations right now. Wherever you were headed, I can guarantee we aren’t that kind of business! We often get requests to help clients tailor party items to their themes. This includes designing place cards, creating favors or favor tags, CD covers, etc. If you have what you feel to be a slightly unusual request, go ahead and ask us. Chances are, someone else has already had a crazier request! Seriously, part of the fun of having such a small operation is being able to really work one-on-one with clients to get the overall effect they are after. So go on, ask!
Don’t forget birthdays, new babies, weddings, graduations, etc!

There are a thousands ways to say thank you, but Miss Manners and Emily Post highly recommend doing so in a personalized note, not (horror of horrors!) in an EMAIL! Just because you are putting pen to paper doesn’t mean it has to be a torturous experience (let’s save the torture for trying to express to Aunt Edna your gratitude for the unidentifiable birthday gift). Below is a nice selection of thank you notes to help you in your quest to be a part of polite society. After all, it’s the thought that counts, right?

So you bought some fancy notes and have a stack of thank you notes to write to all of the kind people who remembered your birthday. But how do you start? What do you say? Before you talk yourself out of the entire project, consider these hints. It’s not going to be painless, but everything has a price, even gifts you didn’t really want in the first place. Palm Tree Thank You Envelope color: White Cost: $1.25 each Available assorted colors. Alternate wording available “Just a Note” and “Happy Birthday”. ∗ ∗ ∗ ∗
Be prompt with your notes. Sometimes a thank you is the only way the giver knows that you have received their gift. Be specific. Thanking the giver for their specific gift is an easy way to let them know that they are worth a few minutes of your time. This is a shameless plug, but if we can’t plug ourselves in our own newsletter, then where can we? If you receive money, try to let the giver know how you will use it.. Usually money gifts are for fun, not bills and people get a kick out of hearing what is fun for you. Obviously, you should edit this for your audience. Dear Aunt Beulah, Imagine my surprise when I received a package from you last week. I can’t believe you remembered my birthday! And how on earth did you know that I needed new socks? What a thoughtful and useful gift. Thank you also for the $5 in the beautiful hand made card from Who Knew. I used the money to treat myself to a coffee from Starbucks. Thank you, your thoughtfulness really made me feel special. Love, Matilda
