NATURE OF WORK: Under general supervision coordinates and performs work involved in managing the Public Works Engineering Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) and Geographic Information System (GIS), overseeing its use, answering questions and providing direction to users of the system. Assists CADD support for departmental utilities and other departments. Maintains GIS and CADD mapping files and GIS database. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: The following duties are not inclusive of all duties and the incumbent performs other related duties as required. GIS - develop and maintain a GIS system of all Public Works and other facilities. File Management - maintains files to assure system accuracy and operations; performs system backups. Manage a User Drawing File - develop hard disk directories and sub-directories, develop standard layer names and associated colors, linetypes, etc. Symbol Library - establish symbol library drawing file, ongoing library development in cooperation with other users. Application Training - provides assistance to other users of GIS/CADD system in proper use of hardware and software. Operational Drawing Support - provides Operations personnel with maps and drawings. Provides CADD support for other departments. Other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS: This position is primarily working at a desk indoors and requires no physical abilities other than sitting for long periods and the use of a PC and associated devices for extended periods of time. May lift up to 25 pounds on occasion. EDUCATION: AA Degree from two-year college in CADD, engineering science or a related discipline, or a combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and abilities in engineering computer applications to perform the work. Three years of progressively responsible experience in utility GIS/CADD work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid State of Washington drivers license at the time of appointment, or the ability to acquire such license within 30 days, and a driving record acceptable to the City.



KNOWLEDGE OF: LISP programming, Autocad, database and engineering application software. Engineering methods and techniques as applied to Public Works and other departments construction and maintenance projects. Principles and practices of GIS and CADD. Personal computers, work stations and engineering application software. ABILITY TO: Update, load, and maintain GIS files, computers, plotters, and supporting hardware/software. Train other employees in the use of GIS/CADD software, engineering software, and computer usage . Prepare working drawings from engineering sketches, specifications, and notes. Interpret working drawings, sketches, and field notes and perform mathematical calculations related to engineering projects. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public. Communicate, read, write, and understand English at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
