POSITION DESCRIPTION Function: Under general supervision responsible for processing, serving and tracking warrants as ordered by the court. Essential Function: The information contained in this classification specification is a representative sample of essential and other functions performed in this classification. Specific essential functions are identified for position recruitment or other administrative procedures. Examples of Duties: Responsible for the receipt and review of the supportive documentation provided by the court for the issuance of an arrest warrant. Responsible for ensuring all documentation has been properly authorized and entered into the computer system. Responsible for overseeing the computer production of a warrant, worksheet, defendant’s letter and other supportive documentation. Responsible for ensuring the information and documentation entered into, and produced by, the computer is up-to-date and accurate. Responsible for the daily verification of approximately 10% of computer stored records each quarter. Performs annual verification of 100% of stored records to assure record reliability. Attempts to verify a defendant’s location through the initial information provided by the Court of through investigation with other law enforcement agencies prior to warrants service. Serves warrant through in-person or telephone contact when defendant is located. Removes satisfied warrants from computer. Contacts: The Warrant Processor has contacts with a wide variety of individuals including : officers of the Court; defendants; peers in other agencies; and other members of the Olympia Police Department. Contacts are for the purpose of information sharing and/or serving warrants. Some contacts may be hostile in nature and require a high level of tact and professionalism. Supervision: None
Accountability: The warrant Processor is accountable for the accuracy of information in the warrant computer system (WACIC) and court management systems (DISCIS II), which is accessed by other agencies in the criminal justice system. Incorrect information could have severe adverse effects upon the City of Olympia, such as liability involved in false arrests. Working conditions: The Warrant Processor works in an office setting within City buildings, including the Olympia Police Department, which is shared with other employees. The environment includes numerous interruptions, competing requests for assistance and the potential for physically dangerous situations. Work is routinely 40 hours per week; schedules may be flexible, requiring work on weekends and evenings.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of municipal court and jail procedures. Knowledge of law enforcement and/or court system record -keeping requirements. Knowledge of the laws of the State of Washington pertaining to the managing and serving of warrants. Skill in the operation of a computerized data management systems. Skill in diffusing potentially dangerous situations. Skill in explaining complex information relating to warrant enforcement procedures to people of varying levels of sophistication. Ability to manage competing request for assistance. Ability to manage a system based on information gathered from various sources. Ability to use tact, good judgment and communication skills to resolve conflicts that are verbally or physically intimidating or aggressive. Ability to type accurately and with sufficient speed to meet data entry demand. Ability to responsibly work with and manage a variety of confidential criminal justice information, maintaining confidentiality using discretion as required. Education/Experience: One year experience or education in data entry and computer operations required. One year additional related experience, which may include: experience/training in the operation and maintenance of a complex data retrieval system; court and law enforcement operations ; and/or application of related laws of the State of Washington preferred. Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license. Applicants must successfully complete a criminal history and personal background investigation prior to appointment. Washington Crime Information Center Access Certification-Level II, required within one year of appointment and is a condition of continued employment. A polygraph test may be administered prior to appointment.
