CITY OF KENNEWICK LEAD CLERK
MISSION: The primary mission of all employees is to provide the citizens of the City of Kennewick with the most efficient and effective service possible. Salaries are paid by the taxes, revenues, and users fees collected from the citizens of Kennewick. Each employee is expected to treat all people with the courtesy and respect due them at all times. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under general direction, serves as a working lead clerk responsible for planning, scheduling, and directing the work activities of assigned department records and customer service personnel and participates in completing assigned unit tasks. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Under general direction, an employee of this class acts as a working lead clerk with responsibility for directing the work of records and customer service personnel in an assigned department. The lead clerk is expected to exercise relative independence in the day-to-day operation of his/her area of responsibility. The lead clerk is distinguished from a police support specialist by the added responsibility for making work assignments, maintaining records and inventories, coordinating material needs for several assigned personnel. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Illustrative only) General: Plans and organizes work to be performed; schedules personnel, assigns work; and requisitions materials to complete tasks. Makes frequent inspections to ensure that employees are meeting project schedules and are performing work assignments in an efficient and safe manner; requisitions necessary equipment and supplies and maintains an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all supplies and equipment; assists in establishing new equipment specifications. Trains personnel, and reviews work to ensure proper quality control and that proper procedures are being followed; makes oral and written reports to superiors on the status of individual and group work projects; maintains daily work records; performs any or all duties of support specialist as required. Performs related work and overtime as required; may be required to assume the duties of the unit supervisor in his/her absence; makes recommendations on maintenance and system improvements; assists in preparation of the bi-annual budget.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or its equivalent (G.E.D.) and two years of previous general office/clerical experience or customer service experience involving extensive contact with the public or an equivalent combination of education and experience to provide sufficient evidence of the successful performance of the essential elements of the job such as those listed above. Must have completed probationary period. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/REQUIREMENTS: To perform the essential functions of the job, incumbents must be able to perform the following: Reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, repetitive motions. Light Work: Exerting up to a 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
