Time: 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Location: University Library, Room 1126 October 13, 2004: Promotion As A Community Process This panel discussion will focus on what it means to be an “academic citizen”, the importance of establishing and maintaining relationships in your department/school, and understanding the process that will promote you. Panelists: Professor Mary Fisher, IU School of Nursing and 2003-04 Faculty Council President; Professor Marianne Wokeck, School of Liberal Arts, Department of History November 10, 2004: What Makes a Full Professor? A faculty panel will discuss the roles and responsibilities required of full professorship including an expanded relationship to the campus. Panelists: Professor Sharon Hamilton, Associate Dean of Faculties; Professor Richard Nickolson, Herron School of Art; Professor Jeffrey Vessley, School of Physical Education and Tourism Management December 1, 2004: Creating Your Developmental Plan Speakers will present ideas for how to create a plan to develop your potential including finding external reviewers, discerning areas needing improvement, and getting feedback from colleagues. Panelists: Associate Vice Chancellor for Professional Development, Nancy Chism; Terri Tarr, Director of Instructional Design, Center for Teaching and Learning; Professor Robert Bringle, Director, Center for Service and Learning January 12, 2005: The Current Campus Guidelines The speakers will present the current campus guidelines on promotion and tenure and discuss how to integrate the campus guidelines with school or departmental guidelines. February 2, 2005: Excellence /School Guidelines/ Peer Review A panel of faculty from various schools will discuss how “excellence” is defined in their guidelines, how their guidelines may differ, and what constitutes adequate peer review. Panelists: Executive Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculties William M. Plater; Associate Dean Catherine Souch, School of Liberal Arts; Professor Gary Bond, School of Science March 9, 2005: The Personal Statement This workshop will focus on how to construct and write your personal statement for this stage of the promotion process. Panelists: Associate Dean Diane Billings, School of Nursing; Professor Patricia Rogan, School of Education April 13, 2005: The Dossier This workshop will focus on how to develop a dossier, what guidelines to follow and what role your school or department can play as a resource. Panelists: Professor Dena Cox, Kelley School of Business; Professor Anne Belcher, School of Nursing May 11, 2005: Reconsideration and/or Grievance Speakers will address the appropriate procedures for instituting one or both processes and what to expect.
