Greece – timetable 2004 parliamentary elections TABLE OF DEADLINES The main deadlines relating to the general elections on 7th March 2004 On 11th 2004 13th 2004 16th 2004 19th 2004 20th 2004 20th 2004 20th 2004 20th 2004 21st 2004 24th 2004 25th 2004 the deadlines listed below expire: February The pre-election period commences with the publication of the Presidential Decree dissolving Parliament (Article 31(3) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). The deadline for military officers, etc. to submit notice to the senior officers and February commanders that they intend to exercise their right to vote in the municipality or community in whose electoral rolls they are registered expires on the day after the pre-election period commences (Article 27(1) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). February The 5-day deadline from commencement of the pre-election period for dispatching lists of military officers, etc. to the President of the Court of First Instance in the relevant constituency expires (Article 27(5) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). February The 3-day deadline for submitting objections to registration in the lists of military officers, etc. expires (Article 27(5) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). February The 9-day deadline from commencement of the pre-election period for submitting party names and emblems to the Speaker of the Parliament and the Hellenic Supreme Court Public Prosecutor expires (Article 37(1) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). The 9-day deadline from commencement of the pre-election period for serving statements February on the line-up of coalitions of associated partieson the Speaker of the Parliament and the Hellenic Supreme Court Public Prosecutor expires (Article 37(2) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). February The 9-day deadline from commencement of the pre-election period for nominating candidates expires (Article 32(6) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). The deadline for civil servants and functionaries, officers in the armed forces, etc. for February submitting letters of resignation from service and their positions which are an impediment to election in accordance with Article 56(1) of the Hellenic Constitution expires (Article 30(1) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). February 10 days after the commencement of the pre-election period candidates are announced by the Courts of First Instance (Article 33 of Presidential Decree 351/2003). February The 13-day deadline from commencement of the pre-election period for serving statements on the line-up of party lists on the Hellenic Supreme Court Public Prosecutor expires (Article 34(5) and Article 3(2) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). 14 days after the commencement of the pre-election period party lists are announced by Chamber I of the Hellenic Supreme Court ((Article 35 and Article 3(2) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). February 26th 2004 15 days after commencement of the pre-election period the Ministry of Justice, the Court of Auditors, Chairmen of Bar Associations throughout Greece and Secretaries General of the February Regions via the Ministry of the Interior, Public Administration and Decentralisation send the Hellenic Supreme Court Public Prosecutor lists of the names of judicial functionaries, court employees, etc. and lists of attorneys at law and trainee attorneys at law (Article 68(6) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). February The 15-day deadline from commencement of the pre-election period for prefects to determine electoral departments and polling stations expires (Article 55(2) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). 26th 2004 26th 2004 26th 2004 27th 2004 27th 2004 29th The 15-day deadline from commencement of the pre-election period for the Ministry of February the Interior, Public Administration and Decentralisation to dispatch tables of polling stations throughout the country to the Hellenic Supreme Court Public Prosecutor expires (Article 68(6)(a) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). February The 15-day deadline from commencement of the pre-election period for the competent Courts of First Instance to select or appoint members of the Returning Boards and their substitutes expires (Article 58(3) and (4) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). 8 days before polling parties, coalitions and candidates are obliged to deliver an adequate number of ballot papers for the needs of polling stations in the constituency to the relevant prefect by recorded delivery (Article 71 of Presidential Decree 351/2003). February February The 8-day deadline before polling for nominating candidates to supplement party lists in the case of death of a candidate expires (Article 36(1) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). February 6 days before polling parties, party lists and candidates are obliged to deliver an adequate 2004 number of ballot papers for the needs of polling stations for persons registered in one municipality but resident in another, to the relevant prefect by recorded delivery. These should be identical to those used in the main constituency. The The 5-day deadline before polling for notifying the Hellenic Supreme Court Public Prosecutor of candidates nominated to supplement party lists in the case of death of a candidate expires (Article 36(1) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). The 5-day deadline before polling for the prefect to dispatch notices to the municipalities and communities of his/her decision on polling stations expires (Article 55(4) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). The 5-day deadline before polling for notifying appointed members of the Returning Board expires. This should be done by the Public Prosecutor of the relevant Court of First Instance (Article 58(6) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). The 5-day deadline before polling for the local prefect to announce nominated candidates and party lists expires (Article 39(2) of Presidential Decree 351/2003). The 3-day deadline before polling for municipal and community authorities to publish the polling schedule expires (Article 56 of Presidential Decree 351/2003). 2 days before polling ordinary members of the returning board and court representatives and their substitutes should arrive at their place of service. (Article 68(13) of Presidential Decree 351/2003).
