           Examine, protect, repair, maintain and report on the safe and proper condition of the permanent way,
            railway reserve and structures over the Public Transport Authority Network.

Responsibilities of this position



       Carry out routine examinations of the railway reserve, perway and identify and recommend appropriate
        action on variations from safety and operational limits.
       Carry out reactive and non routine inspections of the railway reserve, perway and environment,
        identifying and recommending appropriate action.
       Protect, carry out maintenance, or arrange repair to permanent way assets with variations from safety
        and operational limits.
       Operate on-track equipment and plant (including rail inspection vehicles) in accordance with safe
        working rules and regulations.
       Review, endorse and validate work undertaken by contractor to ensure conformation to specifications.
       Utilise data loggers and standard computer programs for programming and scheduling maintenance
        activities.
       Participate in training and safety planning requirements.
       Liaise with authorities and other parties on work outcomes.

Selection Criteria
Applicants must address all of the criteria listed below


Essential

    1. Relevant technical expertise, including:
             Demonstrated knowledge and experience in maintaining a safe and practical perway;
             Demonstrated knowledge of perway technical standards;
             Demonstrated knowledge and experience in perway construction and maintenance techniques;
             Practical experience in providing leadership to a per way work group;
             Proven ability to identify track defects; and
             Fully conversant with conditions leading to insulation failures.

    2. Able to effectively work autonomously and in a team environment.

    3. Good problem solving and analytical skills.

    4. Good written and verbal communication skills.

    5. Demonstrated knowledge of train operations.

Desirable

           Practical mechanical experience with per way and earthworks plant and machinery.
           Knowledge and understanding of the practical application of Railway Safety Management pertaining to
            track and per way work.
           Basic skills in the use of appropriate computer packages and technology.

Special Appointment Requirements
Prior to appointment, applicants must meet the following special requirements:
           Possession of a current Western Australian ‘A’ class Driver’s licence or equivalent.
           Able to work unsociable hours on occasions and attend to callouts outside of normal hours.
           Able to work, travel and stay away from home station sometimes at short notice.
           Must be medically fit to effectively carry out the principal responsibilities and tasks of the position.

Further, applicants must meet the following special requirements shown below within an agreed period of time.
Cancellation of the appointment will occur where an applicant does not meet the special requirements within an
agreed period of time after appointment.
           Must have possession of WPW 21 level accreditation.
           Accredited Basic Workplace First Aid level 2 (as per Work Safe Western Australia commission Code of
            Practice) or equivalent.
