THE UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE CRC APPLICATIONS 2006 EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (To be completed by the University key researcher1 and Faculty Responsible Officer) (The financial information is to be provided as input data in the cost/benefit modelling spreadsheet 2 and must be attached) Title of CRC:…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. Name of UofA Key Researcher:…………………………………………… School:…………………………………………………………… The University of Adelaide’s proposed role is (indicate one): Lead Institution Supporting Participant BACKGROUND Briefly outline the following: (i) The basic objective of the CRC Core Participant (ii) What research expertise Adelaide University would contribute (iii) Intellectual Property (please contact the relevant Commercial Development Manager in ARI Pty Ltd for help as needed, and attach additional information if required): (a) Background Intellectual Property  What Background IP will be contributed to the CRC?  What are the origins of that Background IP?  If any other parties (eg collaborators or funders) have any rights (of ownership or use) to that Background IP, what are the details? Key researcher: the academic staff member who takes responsibility for initial discussions and negotiations with the bid leader on the University’s involvement leading to the Stage One application and the detailed tables included in the Stage Two application. Coordinates the involvement of other University of Adelaide researchers. 1 2 Available at http://www.adelaide.edu.au/ari/researchers/grants/CRC_National.html (b) Foreground Intellectual Property  What new IP is it envisaged that the University’s participation in the CRC will create, and what rights or interests does the University need from that IP? STRATEGIC BENEFITS What are the major strategic benefits that will result from participation in this CRC? For example, research capacity building (through employment of CRC-funded postdoctoral fellows), additional Higher Degree Research students, benefits from technology development and transfer etc. How do these relate to the University & Faculty Strategic Plan? 2 ALTERNATIVES Are there alternatives to participating in this CRC to fund these or similar activities? CASH CONTRIBUTION3 Is any cash contribution by the University proposed? If so, what amount per annum? Who is providing it? IN-KIND COMMITMENTS – IMPLICATIONS AND CONTINGENCY PLANS For each University of Adelaide participant outline what activities are being given up for the promised in-kind contribution and how these activities will now be handled. In the event that a participant is unable to fulfil his/her obligations for in-kind contributions, what are the contingency plans? (eg Who else could take over the work?) The University of Adelaide is a research provider, not a research funder. Along with other Go8 universities it generally will not contribute cash directly to new CRCs. Where it is proposed that the University is the lead or a core participant, the CRC is in an area of strategic interest to the University, and a cash contribution is required, it is expected that any cash that the University contributes to a CRC will be tied to projects to be conducted at the University of Adelaide. 3 3 DIRECTOR OR BOARD MEMBER If it is proposed that the University will be a core participant provide the names and relevant qualifications of a potential Director or Board member and an appropriate alternate member Signed by:………………………………………………….
