Codex Strategic Framework :
Vision Statement
The Codex Alimentarius Commission envisages
a world afforded the highest attainable levels of
consumer protection, including food safety and
quality. To this end, the Commission will develop
internationally agreed standards and related texts
for use in domestic regulation and international
trade in food that are based on scientific principles
and fulfil the objectives of consumer health
protection and fair practices in food trade.

Countries should accept the challenge
of strengthening the capacities and capabilities
of their national food regulatory system by devoting
increased resources, improving information
technology system and participation more actively in
meeting of relevant technical committees and
commissions dealing with food regulatory matters.

Governments should in close contact with
industry and consumer associations, develop
education and training programme to explain
the importance of safe application of new
technologies. Emphasis should be placed on
the infrastructure required for an effective food
safety programme including trained inspectors,
technically competent analysts, skilled public
information officer and competent administrative
staff.

National food regulatory framework
should acknowledge the prime responsibilities
of the whole food chain for the production of
safe food by setting objectives. Operators
have a major responsibilities in developing
appropriate means to achieve those objectives.
