POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY Performs a variety of duties to promote boating safety. This position requires a Regular, Reserve, or Special Marine commission. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES _ _ _ _ _ _ Promotes positive public relations Enforces city, county, state, and federal laws as a marine patrol officer and issues citations as appropriate Operates 2 way communications radios Works cooperatively with other agencies Performs boating safety inspections Performs other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS Work is generally performed while standing or sitting in an outside environment with additional lifting and exposures. Employee is subject to bloodborne pathogens, cleaners, chemicals, abusive citizens and combative persons KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS FOR SUCCESS _ _ _ Ability to operate police and utility vehicles and demonstrate basic towing skills Knowledge of police procedures and boating safety requirements Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other organizations, and the general public
_ Ability to demonstrate basic boat handling skills _ Knowledge of pertinent boating and water safety rules and regulations QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) with computer and working experience necessary to successfully perform this job Valid Washington State Driver’s License with driving record free from serious or frequent violations Complete a 16 hour U.S. Coast Guard (or equivalent) boating safety course First Aid & CPR certification
