This person is responsible for all aspects of constructing and maintaining streets, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, storm water runoff systems and traffic control devices; and for street cleaning, snow and ice control and public parking lot maintenance. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • • • • • • • • Promotes positive public relations. Provides a safe and well maintained street system through planning, directing, evaluating and participation in maintenance and construction of system and improvements. Provides preventative maintenance and ensures safety practices. Supervises and trains utility workers and seasonal employees. Develops and maintains maintenance and repair programs. Responds to citizen inquiries, complaints and works with Code Administrator regarding statutory violations. Assists with budget preparation, expenditure control, safety and training. Preforms other related work as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in an outside environment subject to weather conditions and lifting requirements. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS FOR SUCCESS • • • • Knowledge of methods, means and materials necessary for all aspects of street and storm drainage programs. Knowledge of manual of uniform traffic control devices and all equipment and machinery related to streets. Ability to interpret drawings, plans, specifications and inquiring issues. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other agencies and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Graduation from an accredited high school or General Education Development (GED) supplemented with necessary knowledge and experience for successful performance of this job. Commercial Drivers License. Valid Washington State Drivers License with driving records free from serious or frequent violations.
