CITY OF CHELAN JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: DEPARTMENT: REPORTS TO: SUPERVISES: POLICE INVESTIGATOR/CORPORAL Police Police Sergeant Police Officer, Animal Control Officer, Reserve Officers, Explorers SALARY GRADE: 24 with 5% increase for assigned supervisory duties ADOPTED/REVISED DATE: 7/13/00 POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY This is a commissioned law enforcement position, which includes providing assistance to citizens, patrol, investigation, search and seizure, arrest of suspects, writing citations, assisting during emergency situations and generally enforcing laws, statutes and ordinances. In addition to these police officer functions, the position requires advanced investigatory assignments and supervisory assignments such as delegation of follow-up details to patrol officers. The Investigators will be assigned to supervisory status in the absence of the patrol sergeants and as necessary during major investigations. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • • • • • • • • • Promotes positive public relations Traffic and neighborhood patrol Responds to emergencies and incidents Investigates crimes Issues citations and arrests suspects as necessary Enforces city, county, state and federal laws Abides by City and Police Department policies and regulation In the absence of the sergeants, assumes supervisory responsibilities as assigned Conducts follow-up investigations and, at the direction of the patrol sergeants, oversees investigations, delegating details to patrol WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in inside and outside environments. Employees may be subject to life threatening situations, combative suspects, bloodborne pathogens and controlled substances. Employee is subject to shift work and working on holidays.
