CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY: Under immediate supervision, provides direct citizen assistance and performs a variety of clerical duties including typing and filing; logs, tabulates, codes, enters into computer and files all citations, accident reports, criminal arrests, crime statistics and any other records of the Police Department. MISSION: The primary mission of all employees is to provide the citizens of the City of Kennewick with the most efficient and effective service possible. Salaries are paid by the taxes, revenues, and users fees collected from the citizens of Kennewick. Each employee is expected to treat all people with the courtesy and respect due them at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Provides customer service by receiving and processing walk-in inquires and telephone calls. Provides public with information and assistance regarding department services and by assisting customers in completing applications, forms, documents, and other related material required by department; reviewing for completeness and compliance with applicable rules and regulations and informing customer of any discrepancies or further action required. Routes accepted material to appropriate personnel. 2. Logs, codes, data entry, files and microfilms all Police Department records and reports according to established system. 3. Gathers statistical and other information, enters into city, police, state and national computer systems and/or compiles information for various comprehensive reports and other documents according to established procedures. 4. Receives and processes requests from City Staff and outside agencies for services and relays information and requests to the appropriate staff according to established procedures. 5. Performs general clerical duties such as typing, transcription, filing, shredding, copying, etc. as needed. 6. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as required. 7. Police Support Specialists assigned to Investigations and Training may be required to perform other duties of a similar nature or level as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or its equivalent (G.E.D.) and two years of previous general office/clerical experience or customer service experience involving extensive contact with the public or an equivalent combination of education and experience to provide sufficient evidence of the successful performance of the essential elements of the job such as those listed above. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/REQUIREMENTS: To perform the essential functions of the job, incumbents must be able to perform the following: Reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, repetitive motions. Light Work: Exerting up to a 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
