In discussions with Bridgette about the differences between Science 2 and Chemistry, she points out that she uses PowerPoint much less often. Her reason for this is that she wants students to construct meaning on their own. One of the problems with PowerPoint presentations is that students frequently will write down everything from the slides without thinking about the meaning. When one lectures in a conversation style students cannot simply write down what is said and must decide what is important and place it in their own words. Students in general do not like this movement away from slides because they cannot take notes without thinking but these notes are more useful when reviewing notes when studying for an exam.
