Finding Success in Hard Times
All around us we hear stories of unemployment and companies going out of business. Yet in this dark and hostile environment, there are also points of light. Mathew Denos and his company, Low Voltage Architecture, Inc, a Los Angeles company, is just such a glowing star. The American Dream has always been portrayed by the entrepreneur, beginning with little, and building “the good life,” for himself and his family. That has been exactly the course that Denos has unswervingly followed over the last twenty years. He began building his career, with his wife, Virginia, while an MBA student at Pepperdine University, Malibu, California. Starting his first entrepreneurial venture in the office technology supply business rapidly established his company as the market leader in heat sensitive specialty paper. The company rapidly expanded to meet growing customer demand for laser and ink-jet printer consumables, as well as computer hardware. Alomg with being among the first to respond to expanding product needs, the company pioneered a company labeled drop ship delivery fulfillment systems. The company successfully developed a network of customer contacts servicing diverse industries by being among the first to utilize large-volume fax broadcasting. In recognition of his success in the development of innovative marketing methods, he was often sought as a presenter at the Direct Marketing Association trade shows. Cello Music and Film Systems, a privately held company with several branches throughout the United States, was the luxury market leader in high end audio hardware, (amplifiers and speakers) along with the design and of installation of home automation, and custom home theatre and audio systems. Founded by Mark Levinson, a pioneer in the high end audio market, the Company was acquired in 1995 by the founder of UUNET, Rick Adams. Having identified Denos’ recognition of the rapid convergence of office technology with home entertainment, automation, and security, Adams sought Denos entrepreneurial talent. Adams appointed Denos as President of Cello, Los Angeles. With many celebrity contacts, and broad knowledge of the product line Denos rapidly established Cello as the market leader in this market While Denos initially had little specific knowledge of the products and services which Cello provided, his carefully honed business skills allowed him to bring efficiency and precision to what had previously been a seriously dysfunctional organization. By 1998, Denos and Joseph Cali, the Cello Sales Manager, had forged a powerful and effective working relationship. Late that year, both decided to organize their own company, which would focus on bringing home theatre to the rich and famous of the entertainment industry.
With Cali as the major shareholder, Denos bought a 25% share of the new company, Theatre Design Concepts. While the strategic partnerships between Denos and Cali’s contacts in the Hollywood community brought the company contracts from such recognized celebrities as Ben Afflek, Jennifer Lopez, Matt Damon, and Brian Grazier, the task of managing executing and completing those contracts fell to Denos. Four years after starting, the company had completed more than twenty million dollars in home theatre installation work, under Denos watchful eyes. By 2003, as Denos grew in experience, a disintegrating business relationship between the two TDC leaders led to Denos to leave the company, and start his own operation, offering greatly expanded services from those which had been offered by TDC. With his newly developed skills, Denos joined CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association), attending its yearly convention, and making use of and contributing to the rich educational and marketing resources it provides. Of even greater importance, before opening the doors of his new organization, Denos secured his personal California C7 Low Voltage Electrical Contractors License, which is required of owner or operator of any company doing installation work, of the type performed by his company. Combined with his current company Denos has been part of the design installation and implementation of over $35million worth of systems all over the world. Now a mature company, Low Voltage Architecture, Inc. (LVA) has become a leading Home Audio, Video, Home Automation service and installation company. Headquartered in Los Angeles, the company serves estate owners, architects, interior designers, leaders in the entertainment world and corporate establishments, It has designed, engineered, and/or installed systems in both the U.S. and Europe. Under the direction of Denos his companies have been Voted "Best of LA" by Los Angeles Magazine with its home theatre and home automation systems having e been featured in Architectural Digest, Robb Report etc. Low Voltage Architecture, Inc. services include Design, Engineering and installation of: Custom Home Entrainment Systems, Distributed Audio Systems, Digital Communications Systems, High Resolution Satellite, HDTV Distribution Systems, Climate control Systems, Home Automation Systems, 35mm Film Systems, and home security systems. It receives business not only from individuals but from the community of General Contractors, Architects, and Interior Designers, as well. The company led by Denos and his wife and partner, Virginia, continue to grow and prosper, even as the storm of economic recession swirls around them.
