 Role Of This Position


           Maintain or assist infrastructure systems maintenance and trades employees in carrying out the safe,
            efficient and effective first line maintenance of power/mechanical signalling equipment, protected level
            crossing systems and overhead signal aerial lines. ( All Levels)
           Carry out effective and efficient basic service restoration and maintenance tasks on infrastructure
            systems, including signalling and protected level crossing protection equipment and overhead signal
            aerial lines. (Level 4)

Special Appointment Requirements

          Satisfactory completion of required medical examinations to verify health and physical fitness to perform the
           duties of the position consistent with task risk assessment requirements and national medical standards for the
           rail industry.
          Satisfactory completion of mandatory AQF units of competency and enterprise specific skills must be completed
           as specified in Position Profiles.
The list of competencies and skills at REA Levels 1 to 4 include the following:
 Level 1             Basic Workplace First Aid.
                     Track Access WPW 05.
                     Completion of units of Competency at AQF I or equivalent, as specified in position profile.


 Level 2             Aerial Line’ course (PTA) or equivalent.
                     Rigid Lever Operated Points – Maintenance & Installation course or equivalent.
                     Completion of specified units of competency at AQF2 or equivalent, as specified in position profile.


 Level 3             Three relevant units of competency at AQF Level 3, or the equivalent, from units stipulated as
                     mandatory in the position profile i.e. B6201A Track Circuit Leads and Bonds. ; B4701A Repair and
                     adjust mechanical signalling equipment; B4601A Service and clean mechanical signalling equipment
                     Enterprise specific knowledge as contained in the following courses or the equivalent of this
                     knowledge gained through relevant work experience or coursework done elsewhere: Aerial Lines,
                     Rigid Lever Operated Points – Maintenance and Installation, Earthing and Bonding, Track Circuit Rail
                     Bonding
                     Track Access WPW 15.


 Level 3A            A further three units of competency at AQF3 or equivalent, beyond minimum mandatory requirements
                     at REA L3, consistent with the Position Profile for REA L3A, in the following: E497B Prepare
                     workplace documentation; B5301A Maintain mechanical signalling locking and interlocking devices;
                     B5801A Maintain aerial lines.
                     Enterprise Specific knowledge/skills from part completion of the Electrical Signalling Fundamentals
                     Course (PTA) or equivalent in the following courses: General Awareness; General Maintenance;
                     Aerial Lines; Rigid Lever Operated Points – Maintenance & Installation course or equivalent ; Track
                     Circuit Rail Bonding


 Level 4             Completing all stipulated units of competency to meet requirements for AQF 3 certificate as stated in
                     Position Profile, or the equivalent skills & knowledge eg a relevant trades certificate/ skills recognition.
                     Successful completion of Electrical Signalling Fundamentals (enterprise specific) or an equivalent
                     course/ skills recognition at this level.

    *Permanent appointment will not occur if an employee does not meet special requirements within the agreed period of
    time. Satisfactory completion of probation depends on the employee having successfully completed all requirements
