Norwegian Business Delegation to India October 2010

                                   Maritime Sector
An important event for the maritime sector is to establish an India-Norwegian project on
“Sustainable Maritime Development”, established as a Joint working Group – Maritime (JWG
– Maritime) under the India – Norway Joint Commission Meeting:
Norway would like to establish a joint maritime working group with India where the goal
should be to develop industrial cooperation between the Norwegian Maritime Industry and the
Indian Maritime Industry. The subject should be to initiate and follow up concrete cooperation
projects between the Norwegian and the Indian maritime industry, including the project
"Sustainable Maritime Development".
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi, in cooperation with the Norwegian Ministry of
Trade and Industry, is now preparing for launching the JWG - Maritime during Trond Giske's
visit to India 27-30 October 2010.
We intend to arrange the first meeting in the JWG - Maritime in Oslo during 2011 at a
convenient time.
As a part of the program for the delegates in the Maritime Sector a visit to the Pipavav Yard
(Gujarat) is planned on Tuesday October 26. This is a modern and well planned yard with a
clear intention to cooperate with Norwegian companies. Minister Giske will not participate
during of this visit.
There will be a first Maritime seminar on Sustainable Maritime Development in Mumbai on
Wednesday October 27, followed by an Experience Sharing Seminar and a dinner for
Norwegian companies in India and the delegates in the Business delegation.
On Thursday October 28 in Mumbai there will be a Plenary Session Seminar on “CSR –
Cooperation in a Global World”, followed by a Maritime seminar on “Stronger Bilateral
Maritime Cooperation; A Strategic and Sustainable Opportunity?”. Minister Giske will
participate during a VIP lunch where selected representatives for the Maritime sector in
Norway and India will initiate establishment of the JWG – Maritime. After lunch the second
maritime seminar on Sustainable Maritime Development will be arranged to discuss how to
proceed with planning for the first JWG – Maritime meeting in Norway 2011. The day will be
concluded with a Networking/buffet dinner for the Business delegation where Minister Giske
will be present.
On Friday Morning October 29 the delegation will move to New Delhi.
An interesting opportunity for Norwegian competence in the maritime sector is the investment
plans for renewing and modernising the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. The Indian side has a
large investment scheme and we are confident that Norwegian “dual use” components and
systems would be of interest for the Indian decision-makers. We will arrange a seminar where
the maritime delegates will present their solutions, products and services for the Indian Navy
and Coast Guard.
After this seminar there will be a Business Delegation summing up and evaluation session, at
the Taj Mahal hotel in New Delhi, followed by a major Public Diplomacy event arranged at the
Royal Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi. Our purpose is to ensure this Public Diplomacy
event shall be a good Networking event for all Business Delegates through inviting relevant
Indian business contacts for the delegates. Minister Giske will be present.

Detailed programs are presented on the following pages.
However, there will still be changes in the programs, related to speakers and topics.
