					                                  Resident & Staff Smoking Policy

Smoking (is) or (is not) permitted in this facility.
(COMAR 10.07.14.37)

For facility to consider in developing a policy:
    some facilities allow residents, but not staff, to smoke in the facility.
    Specify if staff has a smoking area in the facility, or if they must smoke
   outside, on smoke breaks.
    Specify how often staff can take smoke breaks
    If smoking is allowed, specify if cigars and pipes are permitted

If smoking is permitted:

1. The following individuals, categories of individuals will be allowed to smoke in this
facility (check all that apply):
• Residents
• Staff
• Visitors

2. Smoking is prohibited in any hazardous location and in any room or compartment
where flammable liquids, combustible gases, or oxygen are stored and used.

3. Smoking is only permitted in:

4. Ashtrays will be made of noncombustible material and a safe design must be used.

5. If smoking is allowed in a “closed work place”, the interior smoking areas are properly
