As champions of the Eastern Canada Hockey Association, Ottawa took over the Stanley Cup in
1909 and, although a challenge was accepted by the Cup trustees from Winnipeg Shamrocks,
games could not be arranged because of the lateness of the season. No other challenges were
made in 1909. In 1909-10, however, the Senators accepted two challenges as defending Cup
champions. The first was against Galt in a two-game, total-goals series, and the second against
Edmonton, also a two-game, total-goals series.
