This program combines folktales from Japan with folk songs, original masks, origami, and a touch of magic to entertain any audience! This free performance takes place on Sunday, April 19 at 3 p.m. Program notes will be provided. Kuniko Yamamoto combines folktales from Japan with folk songs, original masks, origami, and a touch of magic to entertain everyone! The stories, which are selected from the oldest Japanese book of "Kojiki," portray the culture and moral perspective of Japan. Audiences are encouraged to compare Japanese and American tales, as well as their arts and the cultural elements. A native of Japan, Kuniko started performing professionally in her hometown of Osaka, where she grew up studying traditional dance, music and theater. She received her Bachelor of Psychology from Otani University of Kyoto, Japan in 1983. She has received national exposure performing Japanese Storytelling at the Silk Road International Exposition and on Kansai National TV in 1985. She moved to the U.S. to study with Tony Montanaro, a highly respected mime and actor. Three years later, she began touring with Leland Faulkner Light Theater, helping present lavish stage illusions and bringing ancient tales to life with shadows and magic. In 1992, Kuniko left the Faulkner Light Theater troupe to move to Florida. Her husband, Jon LeClair, a world-renowned magician whose books appear in magic shops worldwide, has been helping her add subtle magic and mystery to her own special act. Bring your family to this special program to participate in and learn about the wonders of the East! This program will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 19 at the NC Museum of History's Daniels Auditorium. This program is free and open to the public. Program notes will be provided.
