Introduction
Our society has evolved in a remarkable way from nomadic hunters to health conscious
civilians, with progression we have everything at our disposal today. Medical science
has transgressed boundaries of facilities and innovation. Yet, health related issues
continue to be the prime concern. They are getting more complicated as our lifestyle is
becoming more versatile than ever.
The relationship between changing lifestyle and health improvement is already
established and there is a wealth of literature to support it. Several key variables predict
positive lifestyle changes across multiple health domains. More specifically, past health
behaviour, demographics, personality traits, social support, family functioning, ongoing
contact with health care providers and an individual's social ecology or network predict
lifestyle change and adherence to lifestyle interventions.
Genetically, Indians are more prone to lifestyle disorders and they occur at a much
younger age. Obesity, lack of physical activity and exercise, mental stresses and tension,
pollution, alcohol, and smoking - these are the major culprits. Interestingly, more than
half of the issues can be resolved by just one essential practice – prevention.
Face a few facts:
• In the next 20 years, urban India will have the largest population of Diabetics in
          the world.
• Diabetes and Hypertension account for 2/3rd of the total cases of kidney failure.
• 60% deaths worldwide are due to coronary artery disease.
• An estimated 7.6 million people died of cancer in 2005 and 84 million people will
die in the next 10 years if preventive action is not taken.
• 84.79% urban Indians have medical disorders without an identifiable organic
cause and with high levels of stress and tension.
• WHO estimates that of the world’s 200 million STD cases, 50 million belong to
          India.

Platinum Preventive Healthcare Programme
Max Platinum Preventive Healthcare Programme offers one the most thorough range of
tests in the country.
The 360 degree screening investigates your health and renders detailed consultations with
specialists. Once you are done with it, you can safely assume your health is as good as
gold.

Benefits of Various Tests
Blood Tests
Blood Grouping and Rh Typing
It is a simple test, which determines your blood group.
In case of emergencies and for surgeries, the knowledge of your blood group is very
important.
Complete Haemogram
These are a set of blood tests which indicate your general well being. They also help
detect the presence of infection in the body; certain vitamin, mineral deficiencies and
other blood related disorders.
Blood Sugar
This test is done to determine the level of sugar in the blood. A high blood s¬ugar level
may suggest that you are a Diabetic.
Lipid Profile
Lipid Profile helps in estimating the level of cholesterol in the blood. High levels of
cholesterol lead to heart disease. By modifying your lifestyle and diet, you can
significantly reduce heart attack risk.
Liver Function Test (LFT)
Liver Function Tests are a set of tests which evaluate the optimum functioning of the
‘powerhouse’ of the body – Liver. These tests help in the detection of diseases such as
Hepatitis (Jaundice) and Cirrhosis.
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) estimation helps detect abnormalities of the thyroid
gland. An imbalance in its hormone secretion causes Goitre. You may gain or lose weight
abnormally and may feel depressed and fatigued.
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)
It helps in the detection of Prostate Cancer, which is very common in elderly males.
Serum Protein, Albumin, Globulin, and
A/G Ratio (RFT)
These tests help diagnose various kidney ailments.
Glycosylated Haemoglobin (HBA1C)
Glycosylated Haemoglobin is a test that indicates how much sugar has been in a person's
blood during the past three to four months. It is used to monitor the effectiveness of
diabetes treatment.
A routine blood sugar test reveals how close to normal a sugar level is at the time of the
test. The glycosylated haemoglobin test reveals how close to normal it has been during
the past several months.
Diabetes patients should have glycosylated haemoglobin levels of less than 7.0%. Normal
value for a non-diabetic person is 4.0-6.0%.
Urine Tests & Stool Examination
Urine Analysis
Urine Analysis evaluates the proper functioning of kidneys and helps detect infections of
the urinary tract. Urine Analysis also helps detect Diabetes.
Microalbumin In Urine Test (MAU)
Normal kidneys excrete less than 30 milligrams of albumin per day. Conventional routine
‘Urine for Protein’ test detects only more than 300 mg of albumin.
In early stages of kidney involvement, person excretes between 30 to 300 mg of albumin
(also known as Micro-albumin) per day, which cannot be detected by Urine routine
examination.
This test measures this small amount of protein (microalbumin) in urine to check for
earliest signs of kidney damage, especially in cases of Diabetes and Hypertension.

Stool Examination
Stool examination helps detect worm infestations and infections of the intestines. It is
also used to detect the presence of occult blood which is a screening test for Colorectal
Cancer. Colorectal cancer predominantly occurs in men over 50 years of age. Early
detection and treatment may help prevent spreading of the disease and minimise the need
for surgery.
Diagnostics
ECG, TMT
Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Treadmill Test (TMT) help assess your heart rhythm,
detect blood pressure abnormalities and serious heart ailments.
Chest X-ray (PA View)
An X-ray of the chest helps in detection and timely intervention in diseases such as
Tuberculosis, Pneumonia and even Lung Cancer.
Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)
Pulmonary Function Test is used to determine the efficiency of the lungs and the airways.
This helps in detecting diseases of the lungs and the respiratory tract.
USG - Abdomen
Ultrasonography of the Abdomen is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure that helps in
detecting presence of abnormal conditions such as stones, cysts, structures, growths etc.
in various organs in the abdomen.
Bone Densitometry
Osteoporosis is a slow painless disease, which begins in mid to late thirties, causing the
bones to become brittle and prone to fracture. Bone Densitometry is a painless procedure
that can detect osteoporosis at an early stage leading to the effective management of the
disease.
Audiometry
Pure Tone Audiometry is used to assess the range of hearing and detect loss of hearing.
Specialised Audiometry tests also aid in the diagnosis of conditions in the middle and
inner ears.
Dental Care
A thorough examination is conducted to provide counselling on the prevention and
treatment of any dental ailment.
Ophthalmology Check-up
A simple examination of the eye helps detect defects in vision as well as the onset of
diseases like Cataract and Glaucoma. Undetected and untreated, they can cause blindness.
Health & Lifestyle Issues
Diseases that are on the rise today are the ones that can be easily prevented by modifying
one’s lifestyle and living more responsibly. Kindly feel free to discuss with your
Physician the following health and lifestyle issues:
• Tobacco, Alcohol & Drug Abuse
• Nutrition and Weight Control
• Fitness & Exercise
• Vitamins/Supplements Intake
• Stress and Depression

Platinum Exclusive Tests
Cognitive Screening
This screening involves tests to evaluate the overall ‘Executive Functioning’ (Attention,
Memory, Judgment, Concentration etc.) mood & stress level of an individual.
Follow-up session is on the lines of Mentoring.
Musculoskeletal Evaluation.
It measures the strength, flexibility and neuromuscular coordination by a Kinesiologist.
It includes-
• Joint range of motion as well as flexibility and strength of the adjoining soft tissue
        structures
• Postural assessment will be performed with recommendations to decrease the
effects of degeneration on joints and muscles
• Gait analysis is used to determine structural abnormalities and muscle asymmetry.

 Sono - Mammography
Mammography is a specialised X-ray procedure used for the detection of Breast Tumours
even smaller than what the fingers can feel. Mammogram is a painless procedure and
early detection of cancerous tumours lead to total cure. Sono-Mammography provides a
more accurate analysis and is radiation free.
Thin Prep Pap Smear
This test is the first real improvement to the conventional Pap smear in 50 years, where
the doctors collect the cervical cells from the human body. It's the way the cells are
delivered to the laboratory that makes the Thin Prep Pap Test so different. Once the cells
have been taken, the doctor rinses them into a vial of liquid instead of smearing them
onto a slide. The vial is then sent to the laboratory, where a machine separates the cells
from unnecessary material. The remaining, important cells are then placed onto a slide in
a clear and uncrowded way. This approach makes the Thin Prep slide easier for the lab to
read.
Total Body MRI
This test fully visualises the interiors of a body i.e. brain, bones, liver, pancreas etc. in 3D
with no radiation.
MRI is one of the best imaging modalities because of its superior contrast differentiation
between muscle, fat, vessels, tendons, ligaments, cartilages and bones.
In women, we do a complete visualisation of the uterus and ovaries, screening for uterine
and ovarian cancer, polyps, fibroids and more.
MRI in men includes a baseline study of prostate size, shape, and architecture. It screens
for prostate cancer.
CT Calcium Score
This is a faster version of CT scanning, which takes an X-ray of the heart in about one-
tenth of a second. Ordinary CT scanning can take anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds. EBCT
takes pictures so quickly that pictures don’t get blurred caused by the beating of the heart,
a problem with a regular CT scan.
This type of scanning can also detect calcium build-up in the arteries of the heart (the
coronary arteries).
There is a very high prevalence of CAD in our adult population. Coronary ‘calcium
score’ is a very simple non-invasive test to pick-up arterial blocks quite early: This score
correlates with the amount of atherosclerotic plaque in the coronary arteries.
Stress Thallium
This is one of the best non-invasive tests to rule out ‘exercise induced ischemia’ (less
blood supply to heart).
A nuclear stress test lets Doctors see pictures of the heart both in the resting phase and
shortly after exercise. The test can give information about the size of the heart's
chambers, how well the heart is pumping blood, and whether the heart has any damaged
(ischemic) or dead muscle.
It is also a very useful test during follow-up of cardiac patients to check the efficacy of
Bypass Graft or Angioplasties Artery.
CT Virtual Colonoscopy
There is increasing incidence of Colon Cancer in our society. For its early detection,
Colonoscopy is required. It’s a time consuming and inconvenient procedure. Now, it can
be circumvented by virtual examination of the whole colon with a rapid spiral CT scan.
After external scanning, the computer generates images of the colon lining to scan for
polyps or cancer.
Bowel preparation a day prior, is required for this test.
Total and Regional Body Fat Estimation by Dexa
This recently available non-invasive test can easily calculate percentage of fat in the body
and its regional distribution.
Normal male has <20% and female <25% fat. It also calculates ‘trunkal’ fat which is
linked with cardio-vascular epidemic in the present times.
Carotid IMT
Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (IMT) is a reliable predictor of future risk of
cardiovascular events. Hardening or thickening of the arteries is called atherosclerosis.
Well advanced atherosclerosis of the arteries supplying blood to heart can cause a heart
attack and well advanced atherosclerosis of the arteries in the neck can cause a stroke.
Measuring the carotid IMT could help to detect early atherosclerosis before one has any
symptoms and to identify persons at high risk for heart attack or stroke. Therefore, IMT
measurements have been incorporated in addition to classical risk factors like high blood
pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, being overweight, family history and physical
inactivity.
Pathology Tests
(a) Infection Screen
There is high prevalence of Infections in our society. Infection screen helps us to identify
these carriers (patients) at a very early stage so proper treatment can be offered to them.

(b) Nutrition Screen
Recent data shows deficiency of vitamins and minerals is much more common than what
was expected in the adult population.
This simple test looks for blood levels of various vitamins and minerals and any
deficiency, if found, can be properly quantified and corrected.
(c) LDL Subfraction

This test separates LDL (the carrier of bad cholesterol) – into subfractions based on their
size, density and/or electrical charge, from LDL 1 to LDL 7. LDL 1 and 2 are larger and
relatively less atherogenic while LDL 3 to 7 are smaller, denser and more atherogenic as
they get easily filtered through vascular endothelium.
(d) Cancer Markers
Tumour markers are substances produced by tumour cells. These substances can be found
in the blood, in the urine, in the tumour tissue or in other tissues. Different tumour
markers are found in different types of cancers.
At present, we are using following markers for screeing:
• CEA for colon
• CA125 for ovaries
• AFP for liver
• Free and Total PSA for prostate
• BRCA for CA breast prone females
• NMP (Nuclear Matrix Protein) urine test, is the most advanced, sensitive test
available for detecting bladder cancer
This is one of the reasons that some people have heart attacks even though their total and
LDL cholesterol are not particularly high.
(e) hs-CRP
C-reactive protein (CRP) is a substance made by the liver and secreted into the
bloodstream, increasing when is present. has been used for many years as an indicator of
bacterial or viral infection and as a monitor of changes in inflammation associated with
many inflammatory and diseases.
Some studies have shown that CRP also can be an indicator of risk of in apparently
healthy people. However, the level of CRP in the blood is normally so low that an
especially test is needed to measure it. This test is called high-sensitivity CRP or hs-
CRP.
(f) Homocystein
This test determines the level of homocysteine in the blood. Homocysteine is a sulfur-
containing that is normally present in very small amounts in all cells of the body.
Vitamin B6, B12, and folate are necessary to metabolize homocysteine. Patients who are
deficient in these vitamins may have increased levels of homocystein.
Increased concentrations of homocysteine have been associated with an increased
tendency to form inappropriate blood clots. When this happens it can lead to heart attack,
strokes and blood vessel blockages in any part of the body.
