					Female Anatomy a. 2 Ovaries- lie on either side of the pelvic cavity i. They are the primary sex organs because they produce eggs and the female sex hormones (Estrogen and Progesterone) b. Uterine (Fallopian) tubes ii. take egg as it leaves the ovary by the fimbriae (finger like projections of the uterine tube) and the beating of the cilia in the tube. c. Fertilization usually takes place in the uterine tube. The fertilized egg is called a zygote. The developing embryo arrives in the uterus several days after fertilization. Then implantation occurs as the embryo embeds in the uterine lining. d. Development of the embryo and fetus take place in the uterus e. The vagina is the birth canal and organ of sexual intercourse as well as an exit for menstrual flow f. The vulva is the external genitalia of the female
