MEANT
FOR ME
At age 47, I was faced with the grim prospect of having to cope with
osteopenia. A bone density test revealed that I was a high risk for the
disease osteoporosis, which is the deterioration of bone mass that can
often lead to brittle and breakage-prone bones. The thought of spend-
ing my life in great pain was enough incentive to get me started on my
road to preventative education. I needed to know why this happened
to me. Seeking knowledge provided me with the hope that I would be
able to battle this disease naturally. This was not my first brush with a
future of impending poor health.
When I was 42, I was told that my neck looked like that of a 65-year
old. Later I discovered it was due to spinal stenosis. The lifelong treat-
ment prescribed was medication and eventually, surgery. At the time, I
had no intention of being bound to prescription drugs or being forced
