Records of the January and Feb 2007
With one week before Christmas, we thought we'd look over some of our favourite records broken this year. Thanks to everyone who has been involved with Guinness World Record attempts and we look forward to more records being broken in 2008! JANUARY Crawling - fastest mile The record for the fastest time to crawl one mile (1.6 km) is 23 min 45 sec and was set by Suresh Joachim (Canada) at the North Kipling Community Centre, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on 23 January 2007. Fastest banjo player The fastest banjo player is Todd Taylor (USA) who played Duelling Banjos at a speed of 210 beats per minute in Palm Bay, Florida, United States, on 31 January 2007. Largest apron The largest kitchen apron measured 17.6 m (57 ft 8.9 in) long, 15.4 m (50 ft 6.3 in) wide and was manufactured by Ignacio Rodriguez (Spain) in San Sebastian, Spain, on the 15 January 2007. Most Elvis Impersonators The world record for the largest gathering of Elvis impersonators involved 147 participants at the Clubs NSW Parkes Elvis Festival who all performed 'Love Me Tender' in Parkes, New South Wales, Australia on 13 January 2007. Most people performing sign language The most people performing sign language simultaneously to the same song is 4,796 and was organised by Zheng Da Zong Yi of CCTV and Zhuhai Campus of Beijing Institute of Technology in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, China, on 10 January 2007. Youngest person to travel to all seven continents The youngest person to travel to all seven continents is Thomas Lucian Staff (UK, b. 14 January 2006) who completed his journey visiting all seven continents at the age of 355 days on 4 January 2007 in Antarctica. Thomas was accompanied by his parents Neil Staff and Susan Crawford (both UK). FEBRUARY Fastest car on Ice The record for the fastest car on ice is 321.65 km/h (199.86 mph) and was achieved by four times World Rally champion Juha Kankkunen (Finland) driving a Bentley Continental GT road car on the Gulf of Bothnia frozen sea in Kuivaniemi, Finland, on 20 February 2007.
Fastest time to complete a marathon on each continent (female) The shortest overall time to complete a marathon on each of the seven continents by a woman is 113 days by Ginny Turner (USA) from 5 November 2006 to 26 February 2007. Handshaking - mass participation The most people shaking hands simultaneously was 4,898 (2,449 couples) for an event organized by Nippon Travel Agency Co.Ltd and sponsored by Charle Co. Ltd at AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong International Airport, Lantau, Hong Kong on 28 February 2007. Largest cafetiere The largest cafetière is 230 cm (7 ft 6 in) in height and 72 cm (2 ft 4 in) in diameter and was created by Salzillo Tea and Coffee (Spain) in Murcia, Spain in February 2007. Largest collection of model cars The largest collection of model cars belongs to Michael Zarnock of Deerfield, New York, USA, with 8,128 different Hot Wheels® model cars, as of 14 February 2007, which he has amassed since 1968. Longest cigar The longest cigar measures 41.2 m (135 ft 2 in) and was hand-rolled by Patricio Peña (Puerto Rico) and his team from Don Ray Cigars in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, between 13 and 15 February 2007.
