events, and recognition to Appaloosa owners and those that wish they were.
                                      General Membership Meeting
3/20/10 – Middlebury Legion, Middlebury, VT

Meeting called to order at 5:30PM. There were 65 members and guests in attendance.

The Officers and Board of Directors were introduced.

Secretary’s report was given and accepted as read.

Treasurer’s report was given: $3401.85 in checking. George will be exploring the best CD options for the
money remaining from closing out the Annuity. He is also working on alternative insurance carriers, to
make sure we can get the best price for coverage of our 7 different events.

Discussion of 2010 events:
Tack Auction fundraiser – We have set up a tack auction with JP’s North for Sunday, May 2nd at
1PM, at the Shoreham Elementary School in Shoreham, VT. The building use is free, and we receive 10%
of the sales for hosting the auction. It is all new tack, supplies and farm equipment all we do is provide
the location.
Everything Equine – April 24 & 25, 2010 at the Champlain Valley Expo. We have been invited to
take part in the Breed Tent. They would like a colored Appaloosa on display in the tent and promotional
breed materials available. We will have binders of photos of club members on display and information
about Green Mt Appaloosa Horse Club. A great way to promote our club and breed to new people. Deb
reported that she will take her colored gelding for Saturday as they would like to use him in a
demonstration. If anyone is interested in bringing their colored horse up for Sunday, see Deb after the
meeting. The horses will be used in the parade of breeds each day.

Regional/Instate Show – This year’s show is moved to June 12 & 13 at the Addison grounds. We
will be affiliated with Vermont Stockhorse Assn (VSA) and offer NEHC medal classes. We are still
collecting sponsors for the show and will need lots of volunteer help for various duties. The officials are
all hired and everything is well underway.

Gymkhanas – are set for June 6th, September 6th, and September 26th. Same locations as usual.
Discussion was held about offering a 4th pointed Gymkhana to keep our use at the Rutland fair grounds
in good standing. We will see what dates are available at Rutland and the board of directors will
schedule accordingly. If we hold 4 pointed Gymkhanas, then members will need to take part in 3 out of
the 4, rather than 2 out of 3 as it stands now. Discussion around dates in mid August to avoid conflicts.

The State 4-H Gymkhana is Thursday, July 8th and we will be looking for volunteers to help with
the running of the event for the 4-H.

Clinic – The clinic was discussed. It was felt that it would be better if it could be earlier in the
season – May? The Rutland facility is iffy that time of year. No real decisive action was reached.

Trail Ride – Set for October 9, 2010 Jan Lingner will chair this event this year and will be hosting
the location for this year in southern Vermont. Once again, there will be a Pot Luck at the end of the
ride.

Fair Events 2010 – We have been asked to participate in the Breed Barn at the Rutland fair again
this year. We will be looking to have colored Appaloosas available to have in portable stalls during the
days of fair week. 2nd Gymkhana at the fair – will wait to see what 4-h does in the barn before
committing day or night, 4-H only or open.
Fall Meeting - Will do a Saturday evening meeting and pot luck again. Date set for November 20,
2010 at 6 PM, at Castleton. Possible speaker or video.

Pointed Events for 2010:
       Gymkhanas – June 6th; September 6th; September 26th ; possible TBA. Katie Little/Deb Hathaway
made motion to change the number of pointed events you must ride in to qualify for year end awards in
Gymkhana divisions from 2 out of 3 to 3 out of 4, if we end up adding a 4th pointed event. Motion
passed without objection.
Instate shows – any open/all breed show held in Vermont or run by a Vermont organization.
Regional shows – Any ApHC approved show

Discussion was held regarding participation in our show as a qualification for earning year end awards in
the Regional or Instate categories. Ideas and input was heard both pro and con. The idea being similar to
our requirement for the Gymkhana division, but different, because our show is only one weekend, not 3
or 4 different ones like our Gymkhanas. Deb Hathaway/Tammy Parker made the motion “Members
must participate (compete) or volunteer (perform a duty or task) in at least one club event, to qualify for
year end awards in the club.” Passed unanimously.

Show Rules and Point System for 2010:
The following addition was made to the Regional section: Approved classes – 1) Halter add
section d. Most Colorful, creating 4 halter awards for all ages. Jan Lingner/Lisa Larson – passed.
In both the Instate and Regional Systems, we will add that exhibitors: Include a copy of the
show program, highlighting the classes being reported. Jan Lingner/Lisa Larson – passed.
Also passed for inclusion in the point system is: Members must participate (compete) or volunteer
(perform a duty or task) in at least one club event, to qualify for year end awards in the club.”

Corrections made to the point system and rules will be posted on the web site. If anyone would like a
hard copy, they can request one be mailed to them.

New Business:
Club Scholarship – Deb Hathaway formally presented the first Rob Hathaway Memorial Scholarship,
given by the Green Mt Appaloosa Horse Club. This financial award is based on the proceeds of our
memorial gymkhana held in late September. This year’s scholarship was awarded to Lindsy Danforth.

We will have volunteer sign-up sheets on the table throughout the evening, for people to sign up ahead
of time for the events they wish to help at. You can also expect phone calls before the event from
someone on the board to remind or recruit you for jobs needing volunteers.

Deb asked if everyone liked receiving the newsletter via the web site. It cuts down a lot on postage and
copying. She sends an email to everyone (who has given an email address on their membership form)
that the new edition is posted to the web site. Please be sure to provide your email address on your
membership form this year. She will continue to mail a hard copy to those who do not use the computer
readily. It was suggested to have a newsletter available at our events for viewing too.

Meeting adjourned at 6:25PM for the Pot Luck Dinner, Silent Auction, and Awards Banquet.

Respectfully,
Deb Danforth
Secretary

V. DISTRIBUTION

                                                                                                                     5
                                        Board of Director’s Meeting
                                        5/6/10 at Bill Rounds House

Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM with George and Jennifer, Bill, Dennis, Charlie, Jenn B-K, Troy and
Deb in attendance.

George reported on the insurance quotes. Our old company, Horse Insurance Specialist, has quoted
$660 for our 8 club events. The ApHC company that is supposed to offer special rates to regional clubs,
Star H, came through at $625 for 8 events. However, their communications were very poor and took a
long time. The info was faxed to them with all the phone and mailing addresses. Their response back to
us was via email and about 6 weeks later. We decided we would stay with our old, original carrier even
though they are slightly higher. We have always received great service.

The Auction on May 2nd was small, but fun. We made $188.96. They suggested we reserve a date now,
for next spring, in early April or late March. We will try for a fall auction on Sunday, November 7, same
location and time of 1 PM.

Deb Hathaway’s barn was struck by lightening and destroyed on April 20th. All the horses got out safely
with some slight smoke inhalation, but the building and all its contents were destroyed. Their year end
awards were lost. Her trailer was parked nearby and the high temperature has caused some damage to
the wiring and seals from melting. She has received a lot of help from the community and friends, to get
temporary stalls built in another out building. Jennifer and George report she is doing OK.

The Rutland Fair Grounds contract was discussed. Bill will go in to talk to Richard Rivers, to see if we can
use a date in August instead of the June date, for a 4th pointed Gymkhana. It looks like the grounds could
be available on the 21, 22, 28, 29th. Bill will try for the 29th and report back.

Fair events were discussed. The second Gymkhana at the fair will depend on what 4-H does. If they fill
the barn for a second session, we will do a Friday night 4-H only event, if they don’t, then we may not
hold a second event. Deb will keep us posted.

Deb reported that a member wondered if we should have a page on Facebook. The directors did not
think this would be that beneficial to us at this time.

George reported that there is currently $4888.61 in the checking account. There are changes happening
in the banks, so we have not done anything with a CD, until we see what shakes out.

The total cost for the banquet was $2539.03. All awards, meal and hall expenses.

Deb ordered ribbons for the events. We are still trying to get donations of various items (pads of scrap
paper, weight tapes, vet rap, etc.) to offer instead of a ribbon. Apparently there are several shows now
not offering any ribbons at all. Still need help/volunteers for the show on June 12 & 13.

Deb reported on a grant opportunity thru the ApHC, to offer financial support to small, declining shows
if they offer open classes for youth. One of the grant’s requirements is that youth classes are free, with
no national point fees. Deb had been working on the grant application and reviewed it with the board,
looking for additional input. She will fax it off or send it electronically the next day. The deadline is May
10th.

Meeting adjourned 8:30 PM. Respectfully, Deb Danforth
