Spring Fling PTA Elections Water Bottles Staff Appreciation Week
**** Spring Fling Canceled ****
The Spring Fling scheduled for this Saturday at the Duxbury Student Union has been canceled due to lack of interest. All those who sent in checks for tickets will be contacted so that we can return your payment. We apologize for the need to make this decision and do hope you understand.
PTA Elections
An election will be held to determine who will fill the position of PTA Secretary for the upcoming term. On the ballot will be Jennifer Quinlan and Tanya Trevisan. Each has submitted a Statement of Intent which is included with this newsletter on page 2. The election is open to any current member of the Chandler PTA and will be held at next week’s meeting. If you would like to vote and are not able to attend the meeting on Thursday morning, please contact Russell Clifton at ubertect@aim.com for an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots must be submitted by 5 pm on Wednesday, May 13th to be counted.
Staff Appreciation Week
This week we honor and celebrate our talented group of Chandler staffers. Don’t forget to say “thanks” to someone special at Chandler!
Water Bottles
As a follow up to last week’s Dragon News, below is the letter we received from Back2Tap, the manufacturer of our Duxbury water bottles. Please contact Ashley Stehn should you have any additional questions at ashc15@aol.com .
Dear Back2Tap Customer: It has been brought to our attention that some kids are having trouble getting the cap cover off their Back2Tap bottle and in one incident a customer actually pulled so hard that two of his sport spouts were pulled off the bottle when trying to get the cap cover off. Although this is the only incident reported where the spout actually came off out of over 2,000 bottles shipped, we have decided to implement the following plan of action: 1) We have had our sports cap tested and it passed required pull testing limits. 2) Bottles with sports tops will no longer be shipped with cap covers. 3) Cap covers can be requested on an as needed basis, realizing that the current covers may, in some cases, be too tight. 4) Back2Tap is working with its manufacturer to see if a looser cap cover is possible. 5) Cap covers can be easily removed from the bottles if you prefer; just unscrew the sport top and pull the cap cover ring off the bottle. 6) All bottle pictures on the website will no longer include the cap covers. Candidate: Jennifer Quinlan Position of Interest: Chandler PTA Secretary My name is Jennifer Quinlan, and I am seeking the position of Secretary for the Chandler Elementary School PTA. I appreciate the opportunity to express my reasons and intent for desiring this position. I have been an active member in the PTA since my first child, Emily, started Kindergarten in September 2008. I have participated in multiple volunteer and committee opportunities as well as, assisting the current Hospitality chair in her various functions. I am looking to expand my involvement in an Executive Board position because I feel I am ready to seek a more challenging role in the PTA. As an active member this year, I observed the effectiveness of the PTA and its Executive Board in the overall Chandler experience. As a parent who will be a part of Chandler for the next 6 years, I am committed to be involved and having a "voice" in my children's education. In that capacity, I view this position as an opportunity for me to achieve my goal, as well as, to continue to learn organization. Once again, I thank you for considering me for the position of Secretary of the Chandler Elementary PTA.
Candidate: Tanya Trevisan Position of Interest: Chandler PTA Secretary Born and raised a Midwesterner in the Chicago area, I now call Duxbury “Home.” My husband, Jon, and I have been married for 11 years and have two active little boys, both of whom will be members of the Chandler family next year: Tyler, who will be in 1st grade, and Will, who will be entering Kindergarten. I am currently working part-time as an environmental and land use attorney and also enjoy teaching yoga classes twice a week at a local gym. Prior to moving to Duxbury, we lived in Pembroke, where I founded and co-chaired the Pembroke Park Committee, Inc., which raised funds for and erected the Birch Street Park Playground in May 2007. Since our move to Duxbury last September, Jon and I have enjoyed exploring and becoming increasingly involved in the Duxbury community through the Newcomers Club and the Chandler PTA. Through these organizations, we have made many new friends while volunteering our time at various projects in the community. The PTA, especially, has been a great means by which to meet and assist members of the Chandler staff while sharing the company, creativity, and energy of the children and their parents during both school and social events. This having been my first year as a member of the Chandler PTA, I am continually impressed by the level of energy, dedication, and professionalism of the organization. For these reasons, I am interested in becoming more involved in the PTA and would like to offer my time to serve as Secretary of the Chandler PTA. Thank you for your consideration!
