					 CHECKLIST FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CRISIS MANAGEMENT PLAN

DIRECTIONS: Use the following checklist to assess the school’s strengths and
weaknesses related to the development of a crisis management plan. An
element may be in place (check YES) but at a minimal level (check IMPROVE). If
the element is missing, check NO.


         DEVELOPMENT OF A CRISIS                  YES   NO   IMPROVE
              MANAGEMENT PLAN

       The school has a comprehensive
       emergency response plan.

       Administrators and staff (including
       security, fire, and law enforcement
       personnel) are trained in
       implementation of the Crisis
       Management Plan.

       Key school personnel are assigned
       specific responsibilities & duties to
       assist the principal in carrying out
       the Crisis Response Plan

       Guidelines are included in the plan
       for communication with parents, the
       media, and general public

       Staff is made aware of the
       responsibilities for the enforcement
       of safety rules, policies, and state
       and federal laws.

       A “phone tree” & procedures for
       notification of staff is established

an established protocol with law
enforcement and other crisis
response agencies.

The plan addresses alternate sites
to house the students in the event
students need to be evacuated from
the building

A central command center and
other logistics are established in the
emergency plan

updating the crisis response plan
