The entries must be no larger than 8x11 and can be in any art form/medium. Winners from several different categories will be chosen and will be given prizes! All art work will be displayed in the hallway. The contest will run from Monday, May 4th to Wednesday, May 20th. Winners will be announced, Thursday, May 21st.
MCAS SCHEDULE The second round of MCAS testing for all three grades at Alden is coming up: Grade 3 - Math – May 11th and 12th. Grade 4 - English/Language Arts – April 8th, 9th, and 13th; - Math – May 15th and 18th. Grade 5 - Math – May 13th and 14th; - Science – May 19th and 20th; Attention All Fifth Graders – Save the Date for Girls and Boys Nights Out On these nights there will be an educational film on growth and development outlining what's to come within the next few years. There will be a question and answer period following the film and refreshments will be served at each event. Please note the appropriate contact persons below if you have any questions. HAT DAY Fundraiser - May 15th On Friday, May 15 Alden students and faculty will be able to wear a hat in school for $1 to help raise money for Duxbury students in need of school supplies. All the money collected will be donated to the Duxbury Interfaith Council to purchase school supplies through the TLC backpack project. So mark your calendars and don’t forget your hat and $1! TLC Backpack Project
Applications for Bus Transportation for 2009-2010 school year are now available on the Duxbury Public Schools website www.duxbury.k12.ma.us. Forms are due by June 15, 2009 in order to get the discounted rate.

We're looking for volunteers to help plan a great week for our staff as well as donate a variety of treats. This is a fun and festive week for the staff and the perfect opportunity to let them know how much they are appreciated! Be sure to include the names of the children in the photos. Thank you for your help. Empty Bowls Dinner to fight hunger
Empty Bowls is the local combined school and community endeavor which is part of an international project aimed at eliminating hunger. DHS students in Ms. Papageorge's Ceramic Art Form classes have made the hand-painted bowls along with parents and community members. DHS Jazz musicians will be providing the entertainment, National Honor Society students will serve the simple meals and clean up after dinner, and Breadboard and Consumer Science students will be preparing the soup. DMS art students are also adding their artistic talents to this worthy cause by designing placemats for the seatings. Local businesses will also be involved by donating bread, desserts and drinks. All proceeds go to the Greater Boston Food Bank and the public is cordially invited to attend.
ALDEN PTA SPRING BOOK FAIR The Alden PTA will be holding the Annual Spring Scholastic Book Fair on Wednesday, May 6th and Thursday, May 7th from 8:00-4:00 in the Alden School Library. Students will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair with their classrooms. They may purchase books at that time or fill out a "Wish List" to shop later with their families. This is always a fun event for the children so we hope to see you there. Anyone interested in volunteering at the Book Fair please call Patty Guilfoile at 781-934-2617. Call for Entries! Before and After Dark The Before and After Dark summer term flyer was sent home with students in grades K-7 last week.
