Health Care Needs on the Rise - Polsinelli Shughart
Expands Practice to Meet Growing Needs
Jane K. McCahill brings 30 years of health care law experience to the firm and is
recognized as one of the top women business lawyers in Illinois.

Chicago, Illinois (February 9, 2009) Polsinelli Shughart PC announced today that
attorney Jane McCahill has joined the firm’s growing, national Health Care Practice, as a
shareholder, in the firm’s Chicago office. McCahill adds additional experience in
healthcare regulatory and reimbursement issues as the firm strives to meet the needs of its
national health care clients. McCahill says she was attracted to Polsinelli Shughart
because the firm has demonstrated a commitment to growth in its health care practice.

“I’ve practiced law in both boutique and large law firms,” said McCahill. “Polsinelli
Shughart is the best of both worlds; it has a small personable office in Chicago, with vast
resources nationally.”

The firm is ranked in the Top 100 law firms, based on the number of attorneys, according
to The National Law Journal. And, its health care practice has 35 health care attorneys
across the country. Polsinelli Shughart is the result of the merger between Polsinelli
Shalton Flanigan Suelthaus PC and Shughart Thomson & Kilroy, P.C. The combined
firms now have more than 480 attorneys, 25 of them in Chicago.

“The addition of Jane is part of a steady growth pattern we have in the Chicago
office,”said Managing Director/Chicago Anthony J. Nasharr. “Jane’s extensive
experience in complex healthcare transactions is a complement to our existing health care
practice and helps us provide better service for our clients.”

Nasharr says the Chicago office has added seven health care lawyers since March 2008
when Fredric J. Entin, the former general counsel of the American Hospital Association,
joined the firm. Entin lauded the firm’s expansion and increased resources for clients
when so many firms are downsizing. Entin focuses his practice on regulatory matters and
is developing an international health care practice.

McCahill earned her J.D. from Washington University School of Law, 1978 and her
B.A., Bradley University, cum laude, 1975. Her first job out of law school was practicing
law for the Illinois Department of Public Aid where she gained substantive knowledge
related to payment systems for hospitals. Today, her clients are health care institutions
and providers who rely on her for guidance and counsel to assure regulatory compliance
and respond to governmental enforcement iniatives. She also assists clients with
Medicaid issues, including disproportionate share payments, and responds to certification
and accreditation surveys and EMTALA complaints and hearings.

“Clients praise her depth and breadth of experience and straight-forward, practical
approach to resolving legal issues,”said Nasharr.

McCahill has been recognized by the following publications; Chambers USA: America’s
Leading Lawyers, Illinois Super Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America, 2008 and as one
of the top 50 women business lawyers in Illinois in 2008 by Leading Lawyers Network
Magazine. She is a frequent author and presenter on issues related to her field including
“Emerging Issues in Regulatory Compliance,”presented to the 2008 Congress on
Healthcare Leadership and a contributing author, Aspen Health Law Center’s Fraud and
Abuse Manual.

McCahill would be a valuable resource for reporters working on stories related to:

• Healthcare reform
• Medicaid issues
• Regulations impacting hospitals
• Reimbursement issues for providers
• Corporate governance for charitable organizations
