How Can I Survive a Breakup? Survive a Breakup and Heal From Lost Love
With This Advice
The first thing that you must do to survive and recover after a breakup
from a lover is to regain control of your feelings and stop the
"tailspin" that you feel yourself falling into. Take action to change
your feelings:
1.) Talk to friends and family and seek their support. True, you don't
want to overload them with your grief, but realize that your friends and
family really ARE there to help you in time of need, just as you are
there for them. They will be there for you when you need them, and they
truly do want to be. They will help you, just as you would help them in a
similar circumstance.
2.) Realize that events in life really do happen "for a reason." Try to
learn from and appreciate the relationship that you had, but also accept
that most relationships do end and that life goes on for the best. You
really will survive and, ultimately, you will thrive in the future if you
appreciate the lessons to be learned from each relationship--lessons
about yourself, and lessons that can benefit you in future relationships.
3.) Eat well, rest, exercise, sleep--In sum, take care of yourself
physically, and your mental state and mood will become more positive. You
will have more self-esteem and more of a feeling of stability and self-
determination. Each day will become brighter, and the pain will fade.
4. READ--These are some fantastic books that have helped me overcome the
pain of a breakup:
Uncoupling: Turning Points in Intimate Relationships, by Diane Vaughn
Too Good to Leave; Too Bad to Stay, by Mira Kirshenbaum
Crazy Time: Surviving Divorce and Building a New Life, by Abigail
Trafford
Coming Apart: Why relationships end and how to live through the ending of
yours, by Daphne Rose Kingma
Each of these books offers a unique perspective on relationships, and
each is easily available in bookstores or online.
With systematic and consistent effort, you WILL survive a breakup or the
loss of a love. You WILL live on to love again, and you will go on as a
better person, whether you are alone or with another person in a later
relationship.
