HOUSE REPUBLICANS USED TO LOVE “ROVE-ING” INVESTIGATIONS
House Republicans took 140 hours of testimony to investigate whether the Clinton White House misused its holiday card database. Rep. Dan Burton wrote a letter to President Clinton saying: “I would like to inquire what the standard practice is for the White House to respond to mail directed to ‘Socks,’ your cat.” House Republicans spent $17 million on politically-motivated investigations from 1995-1998. House Republicans compelled 15 of 20 standing House Committees to conduct politically-motivated investigations from 1995-1998. House Republicans conducted over 50 politically-motivated investigations from 1995-1998. House Republicans on the Government Reform Committee received over 1.2 million pages of documents from the Clinton Administration between January 1997-2001. House Republican investigations led the Clinton White House to spend
over $12 million to reconstruct internal White House e-mails for Committee review, including e-mails between the Vice President and his staff.
