Emperor Shi Huangdi was probably the greatest Emperor of China – he was the
first person to take control of this huge country and he kept control of it.

Emperor Hadrian made the Roman Empire bigger than it ever was before, or
since, and he kept control of it.

But who was the best at keeping control?

                                ESSAY TASK:
    “Emperor Shihuangdi or Emperor Hadrian:
 Who kept control of their Empire most effectively?”

You will have to write seven paragraphs, plus a ‘Bibliography’. Every paragraph
must contain historical evidence – facts, events, examples:

   1. Introduction – outline how the two emperors controlled their empires
      and state which emperor you think was most effective.
   2. Compare the Emperors – Did people obey both Emperors? Which
      Emperor was the most feared or respected?
   3. Compare the two armies – Which Army was the most effective in
      uniting and controlling the Empire?
   4. Compare the transport systems – Which one was the most effective in
      helping the Empire to be controlled?
   5. Compare how they controlled their frontiers – Which was more
      effective [useful] in controlling the Empires’ borders: Hadrian’s Wall or the
      Great Wall?
   6. Other factors? – Any other reasons why Shi Huangdi or Hadrian were
      able to control of their empires?
   7. Conclusion – recap the most important factors, highlight the most useful
      pieces of evidence.
   8. Bibliography (a list of websites and books that you used for
      information)
