HIGHLIGHTS IN FINLAND
Finland bets on nuclear and wind power development to achieve its ambitious CO2-cutting program. Outside the difficult construction of Olkiluoto-3, three new nuclear units have been proposed. Wind power is also gaining momentum, with 8 GW in projects, of which 5.8 GW in offshore wind.
These actions are occurring as Europe is facing the consequences of the economic and financial crisis. Europe’s consumptions shrank by 5% and primary production faced a noticeable drop as well. The trade deficit was reduced by 8%, respectively due to substantial cuts in energy imports.
