In 11 years of Holiday Classic Sales 1,172 Holiday Classic Sale lots sold to 33 states and Canada for $2,936,899 to average $2,506 per animal sold. The 2004 and 2005 editions saw 60% repeat customers. From three females we know about that sold in Holiday Classic XI: An $11,500 purchase produced $21,650 in her first 11 months of ownership A $3,000 purchase produced $3,000 in her first 11 months of ownership A $1,800 purchase produced $3,250 in her first 9 months of ownership The Best Quality At The Best Prices…Time After Time…Year After Year… The Sale That Pays You Back, Keeps You In Business, and Coming Back For More! Welcome to Holiday Classic XII! Happy Holidays to you and yours and welcome back to The Sale That Pays You Back! On behalf of our twelfth Holiday Classic Team, it is my pleasure to present this set of cattle to you and to officially invite you to attend the most exciting and power-packed auction that we have assembled in the history of this great Holiday tradition. A great part of the Holiday Classic tradition is to “make every year better than the last”, and that is definitely the case for 2006 as our breeders have committed a powerful, cutting-edge set of cattle that will rank with the best of any offering of its kind assembled in the United States this season. They are that good, and I cannot wait for you to see and succeed with them. The past 11 Holiday Classic Sales have provided us with many great memories. We started in Hollansburg, Ohio at the former Shirlynne Cattle Company now the home of Top Cut Show Pig Sires - where the great DMC Don’t Treat Me Bad topped our first sale at $6,100 to Smith Show Cattle, OH, to become one of the first donors in their program. This edition of our sale features the dispersal of that very same Smith Show Cattle cow herd, so it’s fitting that what started here ends here as well. In between, the Holiday Classic saw several exciting years of growth in the soon-to-be-historic Union Stock Yards Company in downtown Hillsboro, Ohio where we set new levels for auction prices and auction attendance in Bill and Janet Butler’s magical facility. Our Hillsboro years featured multiple females bred to Payback, Polled Premier, Bad Medicine, Full Throttle and the like, and also saw the first Meyer 734 semen to sell at auction – it brought $150/straw – along with the establishment of the great Holiday Classic tradition of the “Breaking Donkey Auction” when Carpenter Show Cattle sold a gelding at the end of our 2001 sale for $800. In an effort to better serve our growing customer base and handle the growth of the auction, we relocated the Holiday Classic to Urbana, Ohio in 2003 and then on to Johnstown, Ohio in 2005 where, despite the uncooperative winter weather, we set new auction records each year by upholding our tradition of making the cattle better, running a fair auction, and keeping our customers’ needs at the front of our decisions. We’re moving again this year to the Muskingum Livestock Company in Zanesville, Ohio where we think the accessible location, larger sale ring, better parking and load-out facilities, and under-roof display areas will serve our customers better. Let us know what you think. After all, if the Holiday Classic doesn’t work for you, it doesn’t work for us. Thank you to every single person involved with the 11 exciting years of Holiday Classic Sales. It has been educational and exciting to watch trends, styles, customers, and breeders come and go - as I am sure they will continue to do for the next 11 years of sales and for many more thereafter – while this auction successfully survived and improved with each passing year. Our eleventh Holiday Classic Sale totaled almost exactly 10-times that of our first Holiday Classic Sale, so we must be doing something right. History has proven that value comes in all shapes and sizes at the Holiday Classic, and we think that we’ve done something really “right” with our 12th Holiday Classic and we can’t wait for you to give us your opinion on sale day. The cattle are deeper, stouter, more diverse, proven, and exciting than ever before. Oh, the places you’ll go with them! The Holidays are a special time and The Holiday Classic is a special event that is truly driven and directed by customer success and input. We thank you for your support over the years and hope to see you in Zanesville for a memorable twelfth auction. Great memories begin with great cattle and we’ve got you covered this Christmas! This Alias daughter is about as exciting as you can build one when it comes to show ring appeal, and she is bred to make a big-league club calf cow with the influence of Who Made Who, Meyer 734, and the great Boysel Donor 200 in her pedigree. Alias Angel 98S loads a long front, great hip, and plenty of mass with second-to-none style and soundness. She has purple ribbons in her future and consistency in her blood. No one was paying attention when Warye Show Cattle selected her productive dam for $1,150 as an open heifer in Holiday Classic IX, and she is a full sister to our “Holiday Classic Covergirl”, Boysel Meyer 200, that sold with the top of our seventh sale to Sullivan Ranch, TX, and is now a top-ranking female in their elite program. These two Whiskey x American Woman heifers represent the pinnacle of genetic and phenotypic excellence from the Hara program. They are the only two Irish Whiskey calves from American Woman that were calved this past spring, and the Lot 2B heifer was selected as the Calf Champion Female of the 2006 Ohio State Fair MaineTainer Show while the Lot 2C heifer might be the most massive and powerful daughter of Irish Whiskey to hit the sale scene yet. She will make a great breeding piece for the serious collector, and Flashback is well-proven throughout the club calf scene. The next big thing from the incredible 3C American Woman line at Hara Farms, this one-of-a-kind OCC Anchor daughter is on the fast track to stardom. She is without a doubt the most powerful and massive daughter of American Woman whose outstanding daughters include the $28,000 all-time Holiday Classic top-selling cow, Hara’s Lucky Strike that is a featured performer for Double J Cattle, OK. Hara’s Anchoress is the perfect blend of thickness and style with a pedigree of everlasting quality and consistent performance. This gal has what it takes to raise the great ones we all seek and all you need for proof is her 2005 natural daughter by Cunia 602 that is being retained to fill her mother’s large footprints. Anchoress is mated to Hara’s new AI sire Hairy for an exciting calf that blends the 3C American Woman and WAG Harietta cow families, two of the very best in the business. Anchoress is already proven in the donor pens as well as her only two flushes have produced 10 and 14 viable embryos, some of which sell here. Although she is just getting started – she only turned three this spring – Black Jade 950N has already established herself as a credible industry leader. We came to know her as Connor Bonnell’s dominant champion in 2004 when she claimed titles such as Supreme Champion Female of the 2004 Indiana State Fair, Grand Champion of the 2004 Simmental Breeders’ Sweepstakes, Grand Champion of the 2004 American Royal, and Supreme Champion of the 2004 Hoosier Classic, but we’ve grown to love her as she has come into production. In the 2004 Wolfe Farms Sale, a full sib heifer pregnancy to Black Jade sold for $10,500 to Double G Farms, OH, and later produced a heifer calf that sold for $17,500 to Katie Cook, MI, in the 2005 Wolfe Sale, and, since then, yet another full sister sold for an undisclosed amount to K-Bar Ranch, OK, and yet another full sister sold this fall for more than $20,000. Furthermore, Black Jade returned in excess of $26,000 on 18 embryos and an unsexed pregnancy in the 2006 Frozen Gold Sale where an unsexed pregnancy just like the one selling here produced a very valuable heifer calf. Her value and popularity continue to grow and she appears ready to capitalize on both purebred and club calf markets alike. The embryo and pregnancy options selling here give you the flexibility to choose your own direction for this great female and to take command of your favorite market. Your pastures will be a popular destination when your Black Jade babies hit the ground! A proven source of quality, an Ellie daughter by Leachman Saugahatchee 3000C was a $15,000 feature of the 2005 National Western Angus Sale with a full sister to be featured this winter for Moffitt Angus, IA. The first flush of Osage Ellie to Meyer 734 produced 4 daughters and 3 bulls for Holmes Show Cattle, IA, and the entire lot sold to Berwick Black Cattle, IL, for $77,000. This quintet of females is as valuable as they are consistent and exceptional. There is quite a difference in age among them but we are confident you will see that exceptional quality runs throughout the entire family. Take advantage of this unprecedented opportunity to select your favorite replacement from this great flush of the Sullivan Ranch 48G donor to Meyer 734, a proven combination that pays big dividends. The 48G donor is one of Dan’s best secrets when it comes to making great-producing club calf cows. The first calf from 48G was a daughter by Meyer 734 that sold to Joe & James Sullivan, IA, and has become their top producing daughter of 734 over the years. Joe and James now have three 734 x 48G daughters working in their herd and four other 48G daughters are top-ranking females for Sullivan Ranch, TX, and Brent Seik, NE. The daughters of 48G and Meyer 734 are bigger boned, better haired, and cooler necked than most halfSimmental females, and their calves have consistently sold in the $4,500 to $7,500 range. An added bonus is that the 48G are working great with Heat Wave. Lot 11C is perhaps the most unique 48G daughter to date and we challenge you to find a better haired, stouter bodied, more exciting young club calf cow. Her sisters selling here have tremendous cow potential but are also stylish enough to show.
