Training Offer Porsche Sportfahrschule offers a vast range of training courses to suit all levels and requirements. Take to the wheel and experience the excitement of Onroad training on some of the world’s most famous circuits or in dedicated driving safety centres. If you prefer a different kind of challenge, leave the tarmac behind and opt for an Offroad training course at the Porsche site in Leipzig or the off-road circuit in the desert of Dubai. The winter training courses in Austria and Finland will help you to master some of the season’s most challenging conditions. 8 Porsche Sportfahrschule | Training Offer 9 Porsche Sportfahrschule Specials: g-Force Training, Telemetric-Session Onroad Offroad Ice Driving Test Individual Driving Practice Pre-Level (Basis) Precision (Advanced) Performance (Intensive) Master (Sports driver course) Motorsports Licence Porsche Sports Cup Porsche Carrera Cup Porsche Michelin Supercup FIA-GT Formula 1 We help you to achieve more than you ever thought possible. Once you’ve got the introductory Porsche training course, the socalled Pre-Level, under your belt, you’re ready to hone your skills in the advanced courses, namely Precision, Performance and Master. You have to get the precision right before you can enhance your performance, and once you’ve done that there’s nothing to stop you from becoming a master. As illustrated above, the training levels offer you the option of Onroad, Offroad or Ice training. This enables you to steadily improve your driving skills on different road conditions. The one-day Pre-Level courses teach the basics of driving safety. However, they are not a prerequisite for the next level, the two-day Precision course. First-time participants can start straightaway with the Precision training. Porsche courses offer a uniform training content at international level and are recognised throughout the world, which means you can switch between courses at all of our training venues. Professionally trained Porsche instructors are in attendance throughout. In some countries, you can use your own vehicle, even if it is not a Porsche, or hire a Porsche for the duration of the course. In other countries, Porsche vehicles are provided as part of the package. In addition to the structured system of training levels, there are also special courses that deal with selected topics such as controlled sliding or innovative measurement techniques from the world of motor racing (telemetry). In some countries, Porsche offers drivers who like to live life in the fast lane other interesting driving programmes, such as the Porsche Sports Cup in Germany (see page 22). The following pages provide full details of the training courses and offers. 10 Porsche Sportfahrschule | Training Offer 11 Onroad Training Levels Pre-Level (formerly Basic Training), one-day course for first-time participants Driving a car is actually supposed to be fun. Yet as soon as you have the feeling that your car is not under control at all times, that’s when the pleasure can suddenly come to an end. As a first-time participant in the driving safety programme at the Porsche Sportfahrschule, you will learn the basics of mastering a vehicle. In the Pre-Level you practise the correct responses in the critical situations that may occur at any time in road traffic. Our instructors give you tips on how to identify potential hazards in advance and thus deal with them more efficiently – or even avoid them completely. For instance, before you even switch on the engine, you learn to find your ideal posture and steering wheel position. Exercises will allow you to practise all-out braking, swerving to avoid sudden obstacles and correct vision control. Another section is devoted to the various electronic driving aids found in most modern cars. Professionals explain how they work and how to use them correctly. Porsche instructors also explain the basic laws of physics as they apply to driving and vehicle handling. Experience for yourself the difference between oversteering and understeering and how you can retain control in each situation and restabilise your vehicle. You will learn how to react to load changes skilfully with precise corrections to the steering. On a circuit, professional instructors will demonstrate the optimum way to approach and tackle bends in normal road traffic as well as ideal cornering technique. forgotten either. Who could be better qualified to familiarise you with this circuit than those who regularly drive Porsche vehicles there. You gain an insight into how to Where do these practice sessions actually take place? On the racetrack. Even though training is not against the clock with a view to setting lap records – this location provides a safe setting for simulating the situations that you face in everyday traffic. Naturally our instructors are on hand to examine how you are progressing in each section. And of course, the fun side of driving is not choose the racing line or how to brake properly into bends. During the section training – in certain areas – you will even have a chance to test-drive other Porsche models. 12 Porsche Sportfahrschule | Onroad Training Levels 13 Precision (formerly Advanced Training), two-day course for first-time participants Precision is the basis for everything. Above all, if you enjoy a sporty driving style, then the two-day Precision course is ideal. You can also choose this as your introductory course at the Porsche Sportfahrschule. This is why, in addition to an individual driving style assessment, the course also includes detailed and thorough coverage of the basics, similar to the one-day Pre-Level course. However, in comparison to the Pre-Level, the programme features an extra, very memorable, highlight – namely a session of free practice on the racing track. The first day of training focuses on how to handle the vehicle and respond correctly in hazardous situations. Under professional instruction, you will learn how to approach and tackle bends correctly. At the same time, attention is paid to the hazards that may occur in road traffic. Other particularly important factors here are learning to correctly estimate speed and being able to react spontaneously. You will practise taking evasive action and experience the effects that even only slight differences in speed can have on the intensity of load changing. With instructors on hand, you will gradually simulate the driving conditions in which the vehicle threatens to skid. Practical exercises will teach you how to retain control even when driving at the vehicle’s limits. accelerator control. You will learn how to identify and follow the racing line, with skilful braking control in bends. This course is a prerequisite One of the second day’s highlights includes a chance to experience the fun of the race track. You will discover for yourself that the basic requirements are holding a clean line, calm steering and careful for taking part in the Performance training course at the Porsche Sportfahrschule. 14 Porsche Sportfahrschule | Onroad Training Levels 15 Performance (formerly Intensive and Exclusive Training), two-to-three-day course for advanced participants If Precision has given you renewed driving ambitions, it’s time to discover the next stage in Performance. This course is for advanced participants who have already completed the Precision level. Lasting for two to three days, this driving safety course mainly concentrates on further improving your mastery of the vehicle. when the vehicle threatens to ‘break away’. In addition to driver training, which is similar to Precision training, the first day includes a chance to familiarise yourself with the respective sections and the resulting load-changing reactions, are aimed at further improving your command of the vehicle. Deliberate braking as you enter curves and avoiding unnecessary steering movements are primarily a question of practice. This is why you spend as much time as possible behind the steering wheel. One of the main components in the course is lapping, which is given further attention during this course. Here you have an opportunity to put your knowledge to the test over the entire circuit. The instructor monitors your driving on the race track from the escort vehicle before assessing your progress. You must have completed a Performance training course before you can take part in the Master course. It presupposes certain basic knowledge, such as optimum posture, correct vision control as well as correct and spontaneous reactions accompanying theory. The choice of sections with concentrated driving components, in particular driving a racing line at high speeds and the 16 Porsche Sportfahrschule | Onroad Training Levels 17 Master (formerly Motorsport Training), two-day course for advanced participants As you are aware, we are constantly extending the limits at Porsche. Now its time to test your own: after you have completed the Performance Training at the Porsche Sportfahrschule, the challenges of the Master course await you. The safety training element follows a similar pattern to the contents of the Performance course. Primarily, though, this course is devoted to motorsport-oriented aspects. The driving programme includes identifying the racing line on a circuit, extremely accurate braking and perfect, finely adjusted acceleration out of bends. When driving laps, you should be able to find the optimum racing line over the entire course. Added to this, special attention is placed on overtaking manoeuvres and performing ‘standing’ and ‘flying’ starts. The instructor is behind you in the escort vehicle and is there at the end to discuss your performance on the racetrack. The theory lessons deal with racetrack etiquette, racing flags and correct clothing in motorsport. It’s not only your vehicle that has to last the full distance, you too will receive expert advice on balanced nutrition and fitness training. As a further highlight, a guest instructor from the field of motorsport will be invited, not only to reveal some of the tricks of the trade but also to take participants for a ‘quick spin’. All this will give you an introduction to the high art of skilled motoring and allow you an opportunity to exchange experiences with a professional. To maximise the learning effect, at the courses in Leipzig, for example, your performance on the FIA-compliant test track will be recorded on video and analysed in the group. the Federal Republic of Germany. Use the expert knowledge of our trained instructors and the impartial technology of data recording – just like the racing professionals. Data recording was developed by the Measuring Technology department in the Research & Development Centre Weissach and is used in Porsche road trials. The measuring eye might miss can escape the computer: if you’ve lost the racing line along the way or been too hesitant in braking for a bend, it will be detected. Optimise your racing line and monitor your learning progress with the data protocol. Over the two days of training, driving data are continuously analysed within the test team so that you can put the tips and tricks provided by professional drivers into practice on the racing circuit. Our instructors will also be on hand to answer questions on your vehicle setup. At the end of the course, all participants receive a personal analysis of their learning progress. By limiting the number of participants, we ensure that you receive individual attention. g-Force Training, two-day course for advanced participants Do you love the feeling of controlled lateral acceleration as you view the bend from the side window? Do you drive a Porsche 911 GT3, 911 GT2, Carrera GT or a similar sportscar without electronic stabilisers or with electronic stabilisers that can be deactivated? Then this is the event for you. During g-Force Training, learning takes place almost exclusively through ‘free practice’ as you discover how to safely transfer the power of your vehicle to the track. First you learn the principles in the theoretical section, then you have a chance to try them out on the circuit. Guided by our instructors, you will be introduced to the high art of drifting, which demands precise interplay of steering, acceleration and braking. Experience for yourself the fascination of a controlled drift and train how to keep your car under control in situations such as this when driving at the car’s limits. You learn how to induce load shifts and thus optimise your driving, while keeping the priority on safety. Offroad Training Levels Pre-Level (formerly Basic Training), one-day course for first-time participants Anyone travelling off-road in their car ought to know what he is doing. Or at least have a shovel in his baggage. Offroad Pre-Level training is aimed at those participants who have little or no previous knowledge of off-roading. Pre-Level is a one-day driving safety course based on hazardous situations off-road. And, of course, the fun side of driving is not forgotten. calculating braking distances and emergency braking. Our instructors demonstrate how to regain control of an understeered or oversteered vehicle, or how to avoid sudden which beginners are often too timid to test. But you always have to get back on the road. The two-day Precision training course is the best foundation for ensuring that you are also able to keep the vehicle under control where other drivers have long since lost their grip – and at the same time experience an adventure of a very special kind. As the subject matter partially overlaps with that of the Pre-Level training, you can also start with the Precision course, if you wish. Here too, you will be taught the basics of driving dynamics and driving safety, both of which are essential for secure driving. Due to their construction, vehicles capable of being driven off-road have a higher centre of gravity, which affects vehicle handling – especially when accelerating or reacting to load shifts. Professionals demonstrate how to keep such a vehicle under control even when driving at its limits. In addition, driving techniques are explained to ensure that you continue safely on your way off-road. through a river and negotiating a 35° lateral incline.Traction and cornering facility are demonstrated on sand surfaces. Here you need a sensitive foot on the accelerator – if you’re too timid, you’ll come to a standstill. As the best way to learn is to practise several times, all our instructors make sure you have enough time at your disposal for each task. Finally you can put what you have learned into practice by driving on a marked trail course. Drive home with the good feeling that you are able to safely make use of the full potential of your vehicle and get as much fun as possible out of driving it. gives you the opportunity of getting to know a Porsche 911, Cayman S or Boxster on the FIA-compliant test circuit. Nestling between the towns of Koppl, Plainfeld and Hof, the circuit is located in the immediate vicinity of the Salzkammergut lake district. The circuit also attracts visitors thanks to its handy transport 40 connection and its excellent surrounding infrastructure. The Salzburgring is a very fast racetrack with considerable differences in elevation and demanding bends. With extensive wooded areas on all sides, here everyone can put their driving skills to the test. Porsche Sportfahrschule | Onroad Training Venues 41 The Offroad and Ice Training Venues Leipzig (D) Bauschheim (D) The ADAC Rhine-Main Offroad Centre in Bauschheim was converted into an ultramodern course with 20 modules in 2004. The course is 1.4 kilometres in length. But that in itself says nothing. What is more impressive is the fact that even professionals need around 40 minutes for this course. Here absolute command of the vehicle and courage are called for. In the company of experienced trainers you master the art of driving through water, driving on lateral inclines and uphill gradients of up to 40°. Team spirit is required on the tree-trunk bridge. One participant drives while another directs him from the opposite river bank. Thanks to its own events room and spaces for larger-scale activities, like Leipzig, the Bauschheim Offroad Centre is ideal for groups and incentive packages. The 6 km off-road course was built on a former military training base. The grounds cover more than 100 hectares. With so much space available, it was only natural that we should want to devote most of it to animals and plants. As a result, in addition to the actual course, an ecological jewel has been created here in the form of extraordinary grazing areas. So don’t be afraid if you see wild horses and cattle while you are honing your driving skills. Eighteen off-road modules simulate obstacles you will often meet when driving over off-road terrain. Here you will find tree trunks to drive over, walls and bunkers, as well as an extreme ramp with a 60 % gradient. You can test your nerves on a track with a lateral incline of 35°. In addition to various other obstacles, you can look forward to crossing a ditch, a log causeway, a section full of potholes, sand and gravel tracks and a 50 m drive through water. Take up the challenge and learn how to master these tough tasks with finesse and precision. The large off-road area, the adjacent FIA-compliant test circuit and the complete range of services offered by the customer centre also provide the ideal platform for a variety of events tailor-made to your special wishes. Rovaniemi (FIN) The Finnish town of Rovaniemi lies in the heart of Lapland’s wilderness. This is where the test circuit of the Arctic Driving Center is located, which is actually only available for the automobile industry. The grounds are situated in a remote region where snow is guaranteed – ideal conditions for secret test drives. But for 2 months a year these grounds are used exclusively by Porsche. Here you can safely improve your driving skills on ice and snow. The especially laid out driving sections are ideally suited for both beginners and experienced drivers. After your driving training you have the opportunity of being pulled by a pack of huskies through the bizarre winter landscape on a dogsled tour. Or you can visit Santa Claus’ Village right in the Arctic Circle. Further information can be found in the Porsche Travel Club catalogue. A list of all training venues can be found on pages 56 – 59. 42 Porsche Sportfahrschule | Offroad and Ice Training Venues 43 The Instructors With petrol coursing through their veins and a heart that beats for Porsche.
