					Barney A. Rice, 103, of Heady Mountain Road, Cashiers, passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at a Highlands-
Cashiers nursing center.
He was born in Jackson County, the son of the late Lewis and Augusta Crowe Rice. He was married to Rosa Kelly
Rice, who died Aug. 14, 1994. He was also preceded in death by three sons, Ray Rice, Marvin Rice and Ford Rice;
three sisters, Lily R. Bradley, Dora R. Burrell and Cora R. Bradley; and four brothers, Div Rice, Lemmy Rice, Chris
Rice and Frank Rice.
He was a retired farmer and beekeeper and was a member of the Heady Mountain Baptist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Riddle of Cashiers and Ellamae Franks of Sapphire; three sons, Doyle
Rice of Cashiers, Oliver Rice of Clayton, Ga., and Freeman Rice of Franklin; 23 grandchildren, and a number of
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m., at Heady Mountain Baptist Church, with Revs. Johnny
Norris and Berliss Powell officiating.

Burial was at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Audie Franks, Joe Rice, Wayne Rice,
Mitchell Rice, Brad Rice and Maverick Riddle.
The family received friends Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home in Highlands.
