The board discussed Venita Brafford’s insurance policy. In April 2006, Venita will go on Medicare, this will drop the districts insurance cost from $519.95 to $210.50. On a motion from Fred Becker and a second from Steve Land the board unanimously voted to pay the $88.50 monthly Medicare cost. The board directed Chief Swiatkowski to continue looking for a used tanker and, in the mean time, Fred Becker and Steve Land will look at the district finances to see if purchasing a new tanker is an option. This matter will be discussed at next months meeting. Steve Land spoke to the board about an idea he had for an incentive for the Officer and Firefighter of the Year. Steve has been given the opportunity to send these individuals to a busy Chicago Fire Department fire station for a twenty-four-hour shift. The Chicago Fire Department no longer has a ride-along program, so this is a significant opportunity for our people. The district would cover the cost of food and lodging for the trip. This would be an annual benefit for our personnel. A motion was made by Fred Becker and seconded by Steve Land to begin this program. The motion carried. Steve Land made a motion to accept a $3,870.00 bid from Colombo Electric for electrical work needed at station’s one and six. Fred Becker seconded the motion. The motion carried. Fred Becker made a motion to accept a $2,100.00 bid from Fowler Heating and Cooling to replace the equipment bay unit heater at station two. Terry Pike seconded the motion. The motion carried. Chief Swiatkowski asked the board for permission to apply for the 2006 FEMA Grant for the purpose of obtaining new breathing apparatus. The board unanimously agreed. Page 2 of 4 Mr. Raymond Null, a Special Investigative Technician with the US Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Marion Federal Penitentiary, offered his services as a volunteer for the Fire District. Steve Land seconded the motion. The motion carried. Chief Swiatkowski asked the district if he could use one of our excess trailers and set it up as a foam trailer for use in aircraft rescue and firefighting, to resupply the new ARFF apparatus during an emergency. The board approved the Chief’s request and directed him to sell the remaining trailer. The board would like to get approximately $800.00 for the trailer, if possible. ARFF apparatus training is being incorporated within our overall Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting training program. V. Aircraft Rescue and Firefighter Training: The Blue Grass Airport in Lexington Kentucky failed to send me curriculum information in time to receive approval from the State Fire Marshall’s office to register for the course. The Pittsburg PA, airport sent me information on a course scheduled for the week of March 26, 2006. I sent the State Fire Marshall information about this course and am waiting for their approval to register for the course. As it stands now, the Airport Authority will be picking up the tab for this training. If this course does not work out, Dallas-Forth Worth will be my next option. END OF REPORT There being no further business to come before the board and upon a motion by Terry Pike and seconded by Fred Becker, and unanimously approved, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m. _________________ Don Smith, President __________________ Steve Land, Secretary Page 4 of 4
