Shannon Dean President s Message As a side note

Shannon Dean 314-753-9193 President's Message As a side note, you will see information regarding a Prescribed Burning Workshop on the following page. Fire is a critical part of managing native warm season grass fields. Anyone who has ever been interested in how this is accomplished, why it is important, or where you can witness a prescribed burn should call and attend this workshop. I myself have attended one and participated in a prescribed burn. It is a fascinating thing to be able to safely replicate one of natures most fierce yet necessary management tools for native warm season grasses in Missouri. We are happy to give you yet another tool to keep you in touch with the activities going on at the area. Our caretaker David has a new email address: tealakes@fidmail.com. He will be glad to field any questions regarding the area or put you in touch with someone that might answer questions he cannot. Please always put Tlakes in the subject line so he knows it is area related. Thank you. Shannon Dean President Greetings & Happy Holidays Southsiders, As this newsletter reaches you I hope you have had a wonderful holiday and are prepared for the long year ahead of us. As conservationists our job is never done. The Club and Area are no exception to this as there is always plenty of work to be done. As the New Year is upon us, help with the club and the area will be greatly needed. One must remember that as much as we enjoy the Tea Lakes Area, without the club there can be no area. Therefore, it is very important to keep attendance up at the meetings, increased participation in weekend activities for the club, monthly work days and help with everyday club business. There are plenty of opportunities for every member to contribute to the club. Hopefully you have added "increased participation" to your list of New Year's Resolutions. With that I hope to see you at this months meeting. Mr. Joe Miller Another $103 dollars for the clubs little fishies. Area Chairmans Message Stephen Faller 636-296-8063 NEXT WORK DAY: Call for info?? Dear Members: By the time you read this, Christmas will have come and gone. We are almost finished with the hustling and bustling around with family and friends. The food and drinks will flow and we will be high on the holidays for a short time. I hope your days were filled with joy and happiness and you are ready for the coming New Year. 2007 is upon us, and who knows what this year will bring. Our president, Shannon and husband Tim are the proud owners of a first time house. They are moved into the house at present, but the packages and boxes are still waiting to be unpacked, and the cats are still not crazy about their new habitat. A family affair, we all pitched in and helped with the moving, painting and even new flooring. Looks really cool and I am ready for some upgrading at my house now that the wife saw how nice it looks after just a little fresh painting and flooring. Looks like a honey-do to me. Last work day was cancelled because of the ice storm. Some strong willed workers did make the trip to the area before the worst of it hit, and we appreciate the effort, but recommend that they call me to confirm before they make the trip next time if the weatherman is predicting a bad storm. Yea, you never know about those predictions, but, better to call before you get caught in a situation that could be life threatening. Can't afford to lose any hard workers. Thanks again. The memberships/renewal forms were mailed out and phone calls made by people concerned because they were mailed later than usual. It was mentioned that it would be December before the renewals were mailed. We did the best we could with the help we had. I hope everyone has received their renewal by now and returned it with their membership for the year 2007. As we also mentioned in the letter, there will be NO "Second Notice" mailed. So please send in your membership dues now and don't put it aside and forget where it is. We need you now. David says the area has been very quiet, but one die hard fisherman wanted to drive down the hill and launch his boat to fish during the ice storm. David said that was a bad idea unless he was interested in washing his truck under water. The hill was solid ice and still the man wanted to know as soon as possible when he could come to fish. I won't tell you what I think about fishing in the cold. Join us the next work day! Call for the day, and remember the February freeze out is coming soon, February 24-25th. A great day for a turkey shoot and a basket raffle and just plain fun. Did someone mention chili? Be there and find out!! Happy New Year!
